How much deposit do you need to make when you order a car?
I am planning to order a 335i soon but was wondering what the average deposit is when doing so. I am planning to put deposits in several dealers and order through all of them because I also need to negotiate a trade in value for my car when the car arrives. Would it be okay to order throught multiple dealers? Is that what you did?

500 deposit @ 1 dealer... not every dealer. negotiate price before putting money down...

LMAO ordering through several dealers. Your not going to be a very popular person when the dealers check the DCS and see all those cars with the same specs destined for your local market
![]() I hope you're not planning to order some strange combo. The deposit is typically $500 or $1000. Both of mines have been a $1000, but my CA has not charged my credit card for my current order yet.

Don't order multiple cars through multiple dealers and only buy one.
And yeah, I'm sure someone will notice, since all build request have your name on them. Just negotiate the trade in value now. You wouldn't be the first to do it. As long as you don't wreck the car or put an abnormal amount of miles on the car, it won't depreciate much more over 2 months. Or see if they have a loaner car you can use while you're without a car (but if this happens, don't expect much of a discount on the price of the car).

Negotiate a fair trade in price BEFORE you place your order, then go with the dealership that gives you the best all around deal.

oh, and I did a $1k deposit. probably could have talked them down to $500, but like niukid said, it's all money that's going towards the car anyways.

None-If it's a popular car
I put no money down, but have bought several cars from this dealer in the past. He said on a popular car like a 335 convertible, they would have no problem selling it if I backed out.

Zero ($00.00), Probably because this is the 15th BMW I've purchased from them.

Zero, for me too on a 328ci. My first BMW as well.
Dealer did the order over the phone, faxed me the info, and said I didn't need to show up until it was ready for pickup. The demand for the vert is really high in the LA area... He said the reason for the $0 deposit was because he could sell it in the blink of an eye if I walked out on the car. |
