E92 - 325i / N53 - Car Shaking/Vibrating on Start-up

Ok so on Tuesday morning my better half called me out to the car (E92 - 325i / N53) as she said it was shaking/vibrating on start-up and she was afraid something serious was up. When restarted I could feel it myself. In the end I dropped her to work and the car drove fine. Car sat at home most of the day till I went to collect her from work and again on start-up I could feel the shaking and also noticed the rev counter was slightly fluctuating up and down. Again drove fine collected her and came home. She took the car out again shortly after and there was no issues, engine warm I guess? Same shaking and rev fluctuations on Wednesday morning again.

I gave the car a real quick diagnosis using DIS (I am no expert in DIS) and the following showed:

So from reading around this seems to relate to possibly: plugs, coils, injectors.

- Coils were replaced under recall in July 2012, car has done 28,000kms since.
- Plugs were replaced in Jan 2013
- NOx sensor was replaced twice also, once by prior owner and once by me in Nov 2012 (Would this cause shaking/vibration?)

So assuming coils I got on to the dealer who replaced them under recall and told him the situation, they took the car back in last night as they wanted to have it for a cold start this morning so they could investigate/diagnose.

What are peoples opinions on what I should be expecting to hear? Coils or?

Advice / expertise / experience welcome. Thanks.

Same codes I had. Changed all you did and no better. Changed injectors and problems sorted. So my bet is on the injectors.

Yes but the car has been fine until 2 days ago. It has not been an ongoing issue which has gone through various steps to resolve. Thanks for the input I am sure hoping its not injectors.

EML only appeared once on the first day and disappeared after restart, not seen it since, however it idles rough still when cold. How much is the VANOS inlet to replace?

Exactly same as mine turned out to be leaking injectors which when left a couple of hours caused the vibrating and rough idle. Once started and run for a minute if you knock it off and restart will run fine as its burnt the excess fuel off. Had 3 of mine replaced and a NOX sensor and 2 months later same problem, so bmw replaced the other 3. My car was out of warranty and not a AUC car but managed to get bmw to cover cost of parts and i just paid labour which was around £350 would have been just shy of £1400 otherwise

So dealer just called and said its the injectors alright. They failed the diagnostics test but the plugs and coils are fine.

Any ideas on OEM quality parts but not at dealer prices? A quick search is not showing a major difference when you consider shipping, warranty, fitting, etc.. maybe I am not looking hard enough.

Thing with injectors is, once they are fitted they have to be coded by bmw.

Have you had the injectors replaced under recall/ enhancement yet?

I haven't but perhaps prior owner did? I had all coils done under enhancement that was it and also got a list of prior enhancement work done and injectors were never mentioned.

Think I will just have to suck it up...

Yeah mines a 2009 with 50,000miles you would have a hard time getting them to cover parts as the mileage is quite high, its worth asking for a discount though even if its 10-20%

Yes dealer are giving me % off parts and labor and I have also asked them to see if BMW will do anything in terms of goodwill, a long shot, but if you don't ask you don't get.

Noticed mine last year as approved used a week after I got it as its very cold. Vibration and could not hold an idle almost to stalling.

Was injectors. I think they run a different pattern on cold start & they just could not cut it. They were an upgrade as dealer replaced 1 and it did not work so then had to do all 6 as the replacements on fresh order were different part. So it actually swallowed 7 injectors on the Warranty claim.

One of the reasons I have extended my warranty as I don't want to take that pain.
