walnut blast the d...
Soo instead of getting an ecu tune this year i figured i should walnut blast everything that carbon can build up on..i guess the intake valves gotta get blasted but can i blast the cylinder heads and egr also??

not sure what exactly youre asking. When the valves get blasted typically they are still installed in the head, so you would be blasting the intake port as well as the valves. EGR could be blasted, but I dont see why you would since its pretty easy to clean by hand and not run the risk of damaging the electronics in the valve.

nothing in particular im at 70k km out of warranty and just wanna clean any carbon thats been built up...soo i figured walnut blast evrything.....i wanted to see what you guys think before my mechanic made fun of me..lol

There is an excellent article here about walnut blasting.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=682116 I have looked in other forums and people are mainly just blasting the intake ports & valves. Some have even suggested in using dry ice so you can blast the bottom of the valves with the valves opened & within the cylinder head. Do not have to worry about debris falling into the cylinder. Here is the pdf of the tool BMW uses. |

There is a guy who has been doing walnut blasting for the gassers, he told me that he is going to get the tool for the 335d.

The process to carb clean the D according to BMW's SIB is somewhat different and more work is involved than the gas versions.
- intake and swirl port cleaning, will take more time as its more complicated - intake flaps, and potentially the EGR needs cleaning - intake manifold is sent in to be chemically bathed - you need to take care and rotate your engine to protect debris from falling into the intake ports I wouldn't want to be the first to take it to someone who has worked on the D before.
