I once bought their resonated downpipes just for the heck of it. Once I received the part, it was utter crap. Seemed as if someone learning to weld made the part. I put it back into the and returned it. Even if someone gives you a OBX downpipe for free, do not take it.

Just get the VRSF ones, reasonably priced and good quality. Plus you can opt for the ceramic coating to eliminate any rust issues.

I got my set of OBX pipes on ebay for $140 shipped. You can't beat that. After receiving them, they look just fine. The only welds that were a little spotty were the O2 bungs. They left jagged edges on the inside. Nothing a dremel can't fix. There's a full review here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=814273

I am all in to save money.

But you have to consider that these welds are subjected to some pretty extreme environment. A poor weld might not manifest itself initially, but thousands of heat cycle afterward it might crack.

On the other hand, as pretty looking as they are, I would never pay $1000 for a set of AR dp (can get a nice set of axle back exhaust for that much money), but I would be much more comfortable paying $400 for the VRSF, especially if you take into the additional installation cost/time if you run into problems.

Bumping thread to update my experience. Finally got these installed this past Monday. Shop had zero fitment issues. The midrange and top end power gain is a noticeable difference! They sound great too. Best $140 I've ever spent.

No offense but those welds look HORRIBLE for TIG. I'm a welder and I'd get FIRED if I laid some sh!t down that looked like that.

I've seen plenty of "pretty" welds fail in my time... I'm sure they will be just fine. I have an OBX DP on my S60R and it has been about 20k miles and 3 years, still holding together. Prior to those DP's I had a set from another company that were 3 times as expensive and the pipe did not line up properly, plus the flange was warped! More money does not always=better product.

Its a BMW don't cheap out on key upgrade parts like downpipes because you will probably wish you spent the extra $ down the road go with VRSF or BMS they are very well priced and especially since bmws generate a ton of heat crappy welds are likely to fail in time

Ive never had issues with OBX in the past. Ive also got a cheap pacesetter header on my MR2 that has held up for 8 years in the rain and snow in an engine bay much hotter than the 335i.

Those 2 pipes are far from critical components, a cracked weld in the future isnt going to do any engine damage and is easily fixed.

Easily fixed meaning you have to remove the downpipes, repair the weld/pay to repair the weld and then reinstall the downpipes. That's 4 hours in just install uninstall time for the average DIY guy and that's at least $400 for the person that is going to pay a shop.

If you do it right the first time and you'll only have to do it once

There are plenty of people who have been running the OBX pipes for a couple years through daily driving and extensive track times. I haven't heard of a failure for the n54 pipes.

Probably none documented on this forum since the part hasn't been available that long but plenty of other documented failures out there. I really stay away from discussing other brands, especially in a negative light but we used to be heavily involved in the import/compact car scene for well over 7 years before jumping over to the euro market and I've seen dozens upon dozens of these products fail both in person and online. The fact that they claim ANY of these are made of any grade of stainless steel is comical.
