11.8 sec 120 mph Quarter Mile
After last weeks bad weather and a 12.1 sec 1/4 mile I was looking for another opportunity to break into the 11's. Found out there's another NHRA sanctioned track within driving distance and they were doing a Test-n-Tune today. And the weather today is unusually good. Nice high pressure system on top of us, and we actually had frost on the ground this morning...
~52F, ~30.13 pressure, dew point ~32 F at 1000 ft -> Density Altitude of ~ 603 ft for these runs. Only did two runs and left before breaking anything. Both runs were 11.8's. Due to traction issues last time I did a couple things that are counter intuitive from what I've done in the past... Had over half a tank of fuel in there for more rear weight and left the traction control nannies on. There's just too much slippage that occurs without the traction control using the Hoosier DOT drag radials. Think I'd need even better tires to apply full fuel without the traction control nannies and LSD helping maintain the grip. Oh, I also changed the shifting procedure a bit based on what I was seeing after studing some of the data I've collected. Think others will find getting out of 2nd gear earlier is better. The transmission is in fluid coupling mode in 2nd and 3rd is full lockup. You'll transfer power better in full lockup. Got a video to post at some point as well. But I've got a bunch of home chores to do now. |

Thanks TDIwyse. When you have time, could you translate the quoted paragraph into "Shifting for Dummies" level?

Excellent. Sure to see some respect from the 335i gas owners now! And the beauty is besides the meth... This does not require exotic priced race fuel either. Would be awesome to see how vbox numbers compare with that track also. What did you run against that was doing 129mph in the qtr?

Filled up after I was done and reset the mpg predictor. Car was predicting 49 mpg when I pulled into my garage (It's usually a little optimisitic, but still ...). This has been my favorite car I've ever owned. Thank you Stan for helping make this possible. |

You didn't answer my question... I am gonna guess you figured out a way to integrate meth/increase fuel pressure even further.

Tune + exhaust bolt on's, less than $2,000 and the 335d breaks into 11's.
![]() This is probably my most favorite BMW to date. Thanks for doing all the work to unlock the car's potential. |

Well, many of us have been using water/meth for quite some time now, and rail pressure mods have also been used for sometime, and remaps have been used for sometime. I am doing something a little creative with one or more of these things. But it took Ecotune and the DPF delete to really free up the EGT margin to safely do some of this stuff.

There's a cobbled together water/methanol setup. Pieced together from ebay. There's the downpipe. There's the DDE that was remapped. Homemade AEM intake (no OEM airbox anymore). Some homemade electronics. And that's it. Stock intercooler, turbo's, injectors ... The car has all the inherent DNA from the factory to do some amazing things. |

If you're talking about the engine sound at the initial launch, then that was the really loud car in the other lane. He was also doing a heavy burnout before coming to the line (you can see some of the smoke slowly drift into frame at the beginning). It was some kind of really pretty blue Acura (I think) with a lot of nice looking aero ground effect cladding. Maybe an RSX? It looked and sounded heavily modified.
After the launch the diesel engine sound takes over. I really like how it sounds now with the mufflers deleted and straight pipes put in their place. Just remembered a "bolt on" item I forgot. I did make a homemade functional rear diffuser to reduce the under car turbulence created by removing those massive mufflers (I do still have the mid pipe SCR catalyst in place). http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...0&postcount=38 |

About the only suggestion I haven't seen discussed before is the shifting early out of 2nd gear to get into 3rd where the torque converter locks up. I tried to time it this weekend so the 3rd gear shift came online at ~3000 rpm's (a bit before peak power, but the Gtech data I have shows more pwr getting to the ground in 3rd at this rpm than 2nd gear at any rpm). |
