Optional new GM system won't let you drive without putting your seatbelt on [Autoblog]
MAMA MIA... This should've been standard equipment. Too many damn anti-seatbelts activists out there

It makes me furious when people don't buckle up. My sister in law always fights me on it saying that she is in the back seat. Well I'm wearing my seatbelt and she will turn into a human missile right through me if anything happens. She's now eight months pregnant and I STILL had to tell her to buckle up last weekend.

Our good friend is a firefighter at a station that covers a busy section of i95. I asked him if he's seen any really horrible things and he said "all the time... Please just wear your seatbelt. They really do save lives."

On a personal note, my college roommate's father got a note from his doctor because he didn't like the feeling of the belt on his bladder. Well, he was hit head on in what would have been a very survivable accident and is now dead because he wasn't wearing his and was ejected from the vehicle. That's when I adopted my "not on my watch" philosophy.

I simply don't move until people put them on. My car, my rules. I also don't ride as a passenger with anyone who doesn't wear one. If they disregard safety that much I don't want them behind the wheel.

The driver gets the ticket when the passengers do not wear it. I'm not getting ticket so that people can self-harm themselves to make some sort of stupid statement about being "free" to put themselves at risk for no good reason.

Buckle up or the car doesn't move. My car I drive it so you're not getting anywhere without it on. If you won't wear it you're free to get out and walk.

Nevermind, with all the airbag systems in cars these days, THOSE systems and specifically the impact points of the airbags only function as designed if the person sitting in the seat is wearing the seatbelt restraint properly.

My thoughts are echoed in this thread already. When in my car, it's my rules. Don't like them, get your ride from someone else. You will wear a seatbelt in my car, period. I don't care if you're in the front seat, or shoehorned in the backseat. You will wear your seatbelt.

My other big rule is, I don't move my driver seat for anyone when I'm driving. Sorry if you're somehow sitting behind me, my driving position will keep me driving safely. And safety is my #1 concern. I'm 6'4" in a 135i, not too many people sit behind me, lol.

Where I live the ticket would go to the drive so they either wear it while in my car of find another ride.

If your passenger is not wearing a seat belt and you get in an accident, the ramifications are all on you. You ever see an in car video of someone flying around inside a vehicle in a bad accident or roll over? If they don't get ejected chances are their bodies flying around are going to kill everyone in the car that is wearing a belt.

I believe in freedom of choice. An adult should decide whether or not he wants to wear a seat belt.

I will do my best to swerve away from a body laying in the road that has been ejected out the front window of a crashed vehicle. My Raptor is not the quickest vehicle at swerving though. Good luck to us both.

This I do agree on, it's a persons choice, while I do prefer not to wear one I do because I don't like tickets, as far as my passengers, well If I'm going to wear one, so are they, but like I said, It should be a persons choice we as adults should be able to make.

Why would you bother? The person is likely dead already or close to it.

Glad the guy in the 18 wheeler didn't feel that way when I hit debris on Ohio on my way back from a weekend party in Denver and totaled my Harley bouncing and sliding down the highway at 70-75MPH. Only good thing, it was raining and I did more sliding than anything, 2 tiny little skinned elbows, well then there was that Split I did somwhere in my highway acrobatice routien, never remembered being able to do a split and I reconfirmed that, that day as well.

Running over a body would likely damage the car, unless you're driving an 18 wheeler swerving would be a good idea.

I don't get why people would be daft enough not to wear seatbelts, apart from Ukrainian taxis I don't think I've been in a car without everyone wearing seatbelts since I was a kid. Must be an American thing.

While I agree with the freedom of choice, I also have the freedom to choose whether to enforce the law in my vehicle, and if they don't like it, they are free to choose to ride with someone else.

I just don't move the vehicle till everyone wears them. If complaining starts, they just end up being driven by a pissed bitch, and then they beg me to slow down. Educational.

Yup. Drive like a maniac and make them see the need to be belted! They will hold on to the handles real tight too!

Yes, and damn if that doesn't feel good! I'm such a fail as a calm and collected female driver who obeys speed limits.

The other punishment I do it to the dear spouse, who always complains about the tires, and destroying them, and I always make sure after that marks will stay on the pavement for a while.

I slam my brakes briefly at highway speed if I notice a passenger isn't wearing their seatbelt. When they hit the front seat suddenly, then they realize what to do lol.

I enjoy wearing my seat belt. I feel naked if I don't have it on.

Good for them in their own car.

By the way, a back passenger not wearing his seatbelt will kill the front passenger in a collision.
