Upgrade Angel Eye DRL for e90
How do I upgrade my 2006 e90 325i to daytime running lights that are angel eyes. I believe I have the halogen stock lights. What is the easiest cost effective way. I'm looking to do it under $575.
I was looking at OSS but, I wouldn't know how to install after. Any eBay ones worthy? |

I think your best bet would be oem xenons, look on eBay for them. The aftermarket ones suck for the most part, depo makes the best aftermarket though. However there light output isn't as good, so I would upgrade the projectors.

But keep in mind the shop charge on top of the purchase of aftermarket headlights. If you don't mind (and have the means) getting your hands dirty, removing the front bumper cover in order to remove and replace the headlights is not that hard.

I'm assuming you meant LCI Halogen headlights, because OEM LCI Xenons are even way more expensive than pre-LCI Xenons.

The problem with your headlights is that you don't have any Angel Eyes at all in there. So, you have to look at adding LED rings or replacing them with different housings.
1. A lot of people swap them with LCI headlights and use LED or white halogen bulbs for the AE (I have some I'm planning to sell, but haven't gotten around to it. If you're interested you can let me know - see below, they have Lux Halogen LEDs in them and I was planning to sell at $500) Also, you can probably find similar set ups around if you don't want mine. 2. You could probably get some after market housings (Like Depo) for less than $575, but I"m not sure the price. For good ones you might need to find used ones at a discount. 3. You could send you housings to someone like OSS or ONEighty. I think they will install LED rings in a halogen housing and should be < $575. Alternately, you could open them up yourself for cheap and add them. But the opening/sealing and wiring are a pretty hard DIY. |

You can install these yourself. You'll have to remove the front bumper, but it's really easy (see one of the DIYs), unlike the rear bumper that is pretty hard.
These should be plug-and-play, so you just have to swap them for the originals. My only concern would be if they throw any code errors on your 2006. Absolute worst case, you would have to get bulb check(s) coded out. |

Looks like the cheaper ones are an older version of Depo, they have clear corner lights.
The more expensive ones (V2) are newer and have LED corner lights, probably also an improvement in the LED rings. |

The bottom ones have a halogen bulb for the signal, this is why they are cheaper. This is based off what I see in the pics provided. I am not 100% sure. I'd also like to mention that if you scroll down on both descriptions, it states that both of them use H7 bulbs for the low beam despite the fact that the headlights have projectors. So please be sure not to assume that these are xenon lights. E46(2)E90 is selling soemthing similar to the bottom link. He however replaced the angel eyes with Umnitza V2s, which is a quality led ring. I'd also like to note that he has Xenons. Since your's does not, it will throw a fit of errors. You can take the time to do a conversion, but from what I gather, you should avoid that. My advice for you is to not buy either and buy maymay07 OEM LCI Halogens. These will look more clean since they are OEM lights. These are completely plug'n'play. There are a number of LED bulbs for the angel eyes from LUX or Mtech that you could purchase. If you decide that you want LED rings, then you can look into OSS, Lightwerkz, etc. Last edited by kisho; 05-29-2014 at 03:46 PM.. |
