Dunlop Wintersport 3D Review

Chicago got it's first snowfall of the year and this was my first experience with a RWD car in snow.

It started with some light snow ~1-2", and then I later drove in sleet/freezing rain.

As long as you drive carefully and remember that you cannot defy physics you will be just fine. I felt very safe and confident in the snow and ice. The car never plowed in turns and I had no problem accelerating uphill or coming to a consistent, stable stop on downhill. I saw so many other cars sliding around either when taking off or coming to a stop.

When starting from a standstill you still have to modulate the clutch/throttle more carefully to ensure a stable takeoff. When taking a lackadaisical approach my traction light would sometimes come on - too much torque I guess When I was more careful my tires never slid out and no traction light.

I was meeting up with a friend who has an RX-8 with summer tires and he couldn't even get out of his driveway! He had to use his roommate's Jeep to meet up with me. Needless to say he will probably be investing in some winter tires.

In my old A4 Quattro my all-season tires were average at best in the snow, I would still slide every once in a while. I never felt as sure-footed as I do in my RWD with dedicated snow tires!

I am a firm believer in the need for dedicated snow tires

Yeah it was quite hallarious yesterday on the news. When they asked a tow truck driver what type of cars they have been pulling out of the ditches, he said mainly SUV's.

Big truck = false sense of security. They think that they can defy physics and go anywhere they want. Then you have all the 'ricers' who are mislead that because they have a FWD car they will be fine in the snow (even on bald summer tires).

yeah as i have written in other posts i had driven in the ice and freezing rain/snow yesterday...and had no issues..the car performed amazing...people were sliding and i was just going along without any issues..my blizzaks really did the job as i expected them too...a lot of people think rwd cars are bad in the snow...what people don't understand is it's the tires and weight distribution that matter so much...if you don't have the right tires for the right job good luck!!!!
