VA Inspection
Long story short, it took forever to get my car registered in VA because of dual ownership. Had to transfer ownership, get it registered, and do emissions. Now I have to get it inspected yearly (damnit VA!)
I came from MD and I have 30% tint, which will not pass inspection in VA. Has anybody been pulled over for lack of or expired inspection? I'm worried that I'm a target without the bright yellow inspection sticker on my windshield. But to pass, I'd have to remove my tints, get it inspected, and then re-tinted to legal limit. A inspection violation ticket is only $100. I know I'll get lectured here. But what would you do? I'm thinking of waiting for that first ticket, if it ever happens. |

The Inspection Violation might be only $100, but I will guarantee you that the State Trooper will at that point go over your car with a fine tooth comb and cite you for every violation he can find. Tinting will be the least of your worries at that point... can you say impounded?

i never had any issue getting va inspection with 15% tint when i had my previous car, so i am not sure why this is even an issue. maybe i don't know. ignorance is a bliss sometimes.

I have 20% on my e46 and have had it on there for 6 years and not one did I fail inspection for tint. Most inspectors don't have a tint meter. Just food for thought.

30% tint for years. Had 20% on an older 5 long ago. I have never had any inspection station mention anything.
I also just had my first inspection with catless dp's which I was worried about but we do not have emission test yet I may visual and the shop I took it to did not look. |

I've always had at least 35% on my cars (even 20% on 1) and never had an issue with VA safety inspections, I say take it somewhere else.

or just put windows down, when taking it for inspection and go to a crappy shop to pass easily.. Most big shops are gay and want to fail you..

the only tint that is inspected by the state inspectors is on the windshield. They cannot fail for tint on side windows as its not and inspectable item as long as the tint doesnt go below the as1 line on windshield it passes.
But while dark tint passes va inspection cops can still give you a ticket for it. |

Have had 35% for 3 years and no problems. I did get my optometrist to sign the sunshading form and now have that on my VA registration in case I do getting pulled over.

Originally took mine to the dealer for inspection and they failed it on account of the catless DP's and a nick on the windshield being too big. Mentioned the color matched reflectors as possible being fail worthy as well. Have 35% all around and didn't hear a peep about that.
Have been taking it to local shops since and haven't had an issue with any of the above. Car is identical since the first fail at the dealer. |
