Wise old owls opinions please. DSC/ABS failure.
I've have the dreaded DSC/ABS/pull away assist failure on and off for a few months now.
I was fortunate to be able to get the car MOT'd on a good day when the lights etc were all out but as they are now on more times that not I have the car in at my trusted mechanic. All the tests and results point at the hydro/dsc module and as far as i know there are two options. 1. Get the unit taken off, send away and fingers crossed it will be fixed 2. Pay the astronomical cost of a new unit from BMW. The company that will fix it have replied to me and said it can be fixed but they are also the company that my mechanic has had issues with before when they said they had fixed a unit and it came back with more errors than when it went. I really want to get the car back to normal ASAP but if I have to replace the unit with new from BMW (£2000 for the part so I am told) then I am pretty much going to be mightily pissed off and am probably going to have to sell the car. What do people think? And if anyone has experience of the companies that do fix the units , which ones are recommended? I have to say, and after reading others posts I am pretty dissolutioned with my car at the moment which is not like me and especially how I have looked after the car with no expense spared! Thanks Tarbs. |

I went down the route of sending the unit to ECU testing. They were superb. Initially I spoke to and exchanged emails with BBA Reman and sent the unit to them after they promised they could fix it. They couldn't and would not return the unit to me until I had paid their testing fee and return postage. I wasted about £100 with those crooks on return postage and test fees before ECU testing resolved the issues. Given your location I would suggest your mechanic's local solution is BBA Reman. Avoid at all costs.

I had the same problem on my Z4. Took it to Darren Wood in Stockport. They removed it, sent it away to be repaired and it worked perfect after that. I think they said something needed re soldering inside. I would recommend trying the refurb route first, it worked for me. But they did say not all of them can be repaired

So.... I did just that.. I have negotiated a 20% discount from BMW... Still stil feel mightly pi$$ed but these things happen.. So the part will be ordered, picked up and installed.
Still feel mighty let down by this and at the moment she'll be sold as soon as I get her back.. Tarbs. |

Had mine done recently, darren woods sent the unit off to ecu testing.
They had the car for a week, All repaired, no problems and relatively cheap in comparison to a new pump |

This really does depend on what car you have and the actual code.
If you are getting the pressure sensor 1 error, then you can get a repair kit (which is effectively the pump part of the uni). It doesn't need coding, as it reuses the existing control unit. Cost is around £160 + vat It's a completely new unit, with 1 year warranty The part number may change, but, for example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-HYDRO-...-/171083857603 |

DSC malfunction, 2008 E92 33i coupe
I'm the USA, can anybody recommend a source for used DSC/ABS pumps? I see several used units for sale on Ebay, but they are all in the UK.
My brakes are staying locked if I apply braking hard enough to lock them. I'm getting DSC Malfunction warning dialogues and lights when this occurs, and car cannot be moved until I switch off car for 10 seconds. Restarting clears the issue, then car behaves as normal. The issue only exists when I lock the brakes. It's placed me in peril several times. Several BMW service people here in Houston TX USA have never heard of this, but it sounds like to me the problem must lie in either the DSC pump or control module. Further, is there an online guide, on this site or otherwise, to removing and replacing the DSC pump/module? My car is a 2008 335i E92 coupe. I know the brakes have to be bled as well, would need that process guide as well (I understand the ABS circuits need bleeding also, further complicating matters!) Somebody mentioned if only the pump is replaced, no new programming is needed? Last question: Would this malfunction throw a code that would be preserved in memory after shutoff? I've ordered an OBD2 reader but I don't think these BNW body/chassis codes are stored there..?? Greg Houston TX USA |
