just got my jb4, quick questions

As i stated i just received my jb5 with the G5 board, and i just have a couple newb questions haha

1. i have a set of new spark plugs that i am installing tomorrow, is it safe to run the jb4 before the new plugs?

2. as far as the black box, (the g5 board) where exactly does that sit in the edu? I've watched/read the tutorials many times and never figure it out..

3. are there any predominant codes that i should watch to be thrown??

thanks for yalls time

1. yes

2.there should go in an emtpy space infront of the rest of your wiring in the DME box. there isnt really a specific spot but it does fit.

3. depends on your mods. if you are catless you will throw codes that indicate this, but they are not an issue. if you have misfires this could be a result of your spark plugs which you are replacing. If you do get a code google it and check to see if its common or if it is something that may need attention.

have fun

You can certainly run the JB4 before doing the plugs. Reason people change them proactively is because usually after installing JB4 if your plugs are older, you will begin misfiring when doing WOT pulls.

The box sits in an empty section of your DME towards the front... Just slide it down there.

The only codes I would foresee would be misfiring due to old plugs. Or O2 codes if you're running catless downpipes. If you are installing or have installed down pipes, just use the auto clear function on JB4. You will still be able to see non emissions retalated codes with auto clear on.

How many miles do you have on your whip? You don't have to change your plugs just because you're installing the tune..... They're expensive. And like the previous posts said, set your speedo at 1 and tach to 3. You'll be good to go. I also had to replace my O2 sensors when I went catless..... If your plugs don't have many miles, you'll be glad you can apply that money towards O2 sensors.... They're anywhere from $150-$200, and you need two. Install it and see how it runs...... Do nothing, stay ahead.

right at 69,000 or so. i ordered the plugs and changed them myself so it was only like 72$ for all 6, and free shipping. check them out at amazon haha. Also what are the signs of the O2 sensors failing, or do i need to just read the code it will throw? I'm not catless yet but I'm going to buy VRSF carless dps soon..

I'd also recommend a bt cable for a backend flash, especially if you are going catless so you won't have to use autoclear.

The first rule of bbflash club is we don't talk about bbflash club. At least on e90post.

Go to n54tech and read the sticky about flashing a N54.
Read the thread from start to finish(many, many pages).
When done reading and you decide to do it, read it again heh. Lots of little "gotchas", reading the entire thread will help you understand everything.

The symptoms I had were lack of pwr, terrible mpg do to the car running really rich and my buddy running the diagnostics at the dealership.... He's a certified tech, so he has access to the equipment. I also sent data logs to BMS and they confirmed it. It's a medium level DIY... Just do to the lack of space to work. Aside from that, you just un screw the old and screw in the new ones.... Just make sure you don't cross them. Sounds like you did right by changing your plugs though. Fortunately, I get them free from the dealership because my service writer is a good friend. Also, regarding the O2 sensor, if 1 or both are bad, you will get the service engine soon light.
Hope this helps.

I tried menu 1 option 0, but when I exit and then go back to menu 1 it would show option 3 still. So instead I went to menu 1 option 4, exited the menu, and now when I go back to menu 1 it says option 0.

Is this what you meant?
