2007 335i N54 2AA2 Code
2007 335i N54, 54k miles
Just started getting this code recently: 2AA2 camshaft sensor inlet, gap loss Read it may be related to vanos solenoids so I performed a cleaning on them and swapped inlet to outlet etc. Got the code again today on inlet again. Should I go ahead and replace both solenoids or could it be something else? |

More likely to be the sensor than the solenoids. You should change it out or check and clean the tip. See the real oem link below. It is called the pulse generator. It could also be the impulse wheel on the vanos in the second link.

Is removing these much harder or different than the VANOS solenoids? Guess I could clean and swap both sensors to see if the code moves sides. Which side(left/right) is the intake sensor? |

Intake cam is on the left side(Drivers side.) Not hard to remove. Be careful of the oring though when cleaning.

Going to scan car today to see what codes are prsent after cleaning sensors.
Issue is very predictable now. Only occurs on cold starts. Once car is warm issue dissapears and never returns after a restart. |

Same 2AA2 camshaft sensor inlet, gap loss So am I likely looking at cam bearing ledges being the issue? Seems it was more common on 07 builds maybe. |

http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...46&hg=11&fg=25. I'm assuming you checked the wiring for damaged sections to confirm it isn't a short.

I would think if the wiring was an issue the code would be more persistent. Once the car is up to operating temp the issue never returns. I understand how the ledges get worn and potentially cause an issue. What exactly happens to this impulse wheel to cause issues? And if you had already torn the car down that for would you just go ahead and inspect the ledges for wear? Debating on whether I dive in on a DIY for this or throw in the towel and take it to an indy in town. |
