255/35/18 tyre on the front?
Just getting to grips with my new car and I've noticed that the front tyres seem to be stretched over the alloy.
Im not sure if the alloys are genuine so need to check that but I have a feeling that the previous owner may have put 255 wide alloys all the way round, but somewhere along the line the car has had 225 tyres mounted on the front and 255's on the back. Im not too sure about running the front tyres 'stretched' and not sure what PSI I should be running them at so I am looking to change them but wondering if I could simply just buy 2x255 tyres and run the wider tyre on the front aswell? |

If it's a genuine M Sport, the tyres would be 255 on the rear and 225 on the front due to the rear wheels being wider.
Running 255 on the front just wouldn't fit and you would have rubbing issues I'd of thought.....

No keep the tyres as they are
Fronts are 225/40/18 Rears are 255/35/18 Take the wheels off and have a look at the width of them to confirm Will say something like 8J on the rear of the alloy (8 inches wide) Last edited by Jase 320d; 06-18-2014 at 12:01 PM.. |

my post was an example
The grammer was not the best, when i mentioned the back i ment the rear of the wheel (have to take wheel off - thats where the info is) As in 7J = 7inches 50J = 50inches 1,000,000J = 1,000,000 inches Etc etc Last edited by Jase 320d; 06-18-2014 at 12:08 PM.. |

Sorry, I think I didn't explain myself too clearly...
I know that OEM are 8J on the front 8.5J on the back. My concern is that the previous owner of my car has put 8.5J alloys on all 4 corners but put 8J (225) tyres on the fronts and stretched them to make them fit. The side walls are visibly stretched and are not inline with the face of the alloys. So my question is, if this is the case, and I were to replace all 4 tyres, could i theoretically fit 8.5J (255) tyres on the front? Btw I have a 2006 E90 330D MSport... |

Take the front alloys off and have a look
Also tyre styles differ so one brand of 225/40/18 may look far more stretched than another brand 225/40/18 |
