any hope for quakes breaking in?
These are so bad they literally hurt my ears! I miss the OEM Dirac system at this point. Any chance the quakes get drastically better in mid bass with some use and time?? I'm realizing how well matched the OEM system is for 95 percent of listeners. No need for big booming bade

Earthquakes aren't bad speakers, they are bad for midbass because they are a subwoofer. The earthquakes themselves are pretty good for what they are but they are definitely not going to produce good sound above ~130Hz. So far my earthquakes have not "broken in" in the mid bass region but they have gotten a little bit more "punchy" on the low end with use. Do you have the ability to set crossover points with your system? You might be able to get some noticeable midbass back by lowering your crossover point with your 4" woofers (depending on the frequency response of your Dirac speakers) but I am guessing you do not have control of that.

Ya unfortunately OEM crosses over at 200 so I can't control that any further. If I low pass the quakes at 140 than I have big gap from 140-200
I just offered jehnerts to try and see if I like them better than 1 OEM and 1 quake. If not I'll sell but if I do I'm done and will stick with that. As much as I thought I wanted more low end, I realized I really don't need it. I enjoy hard mid range punch and could leave low end out . Live and learn |

I put my two OEM 8 inch woofers back powered by ref punch 500w 2 channel amp and man they sound wayyy better than the quakes. I really see no need to ever get quakes. Just power the logic 7 or Dirac woofers with 150w each or so and they sound great. If jehnerts are better than these which I know they are better do I'm excited. They handle 200 RMS each at 4ohms but MSN that takes s huge amp in power. My rf 500 w puts out only 150 at 4ohm so not sure what people are using to drive them with 200w.
I did realize there is no way the OEM setup delivers 125-150 watts to the 7ohm woofers as my rf amp is putting out less than 125 each if that to a 7ohm woofer and its wayy louder. So they are likely only getting 75w which really explains why they sound so great when powered by external amp. If anyone wants almost new quakes and spacers pm MD. Have two 2 ohm |

Ya I finally figured out why logic 7 aluminum and individual kevlar speakers are such harsh highs but then realized who is target buyer? 40 year old plus likely.. at age 40 or so you start losing high frequency hearing response so require much stronger highs.
Individual uses silk tweets and still is harsh. That's the only reason I can figure. But the OEM woofers really are a high quality product with a nice tangle of low and meid bass. They are just under powered . |
