Fuel Pump went out on 2008 335. 780 Miles!
Well guys, after thinking they solved the fuel pump problem for 2008s. Mine started having long cranks on Sunday took it in yesterday and they diagnosed a bad fuel pump and replaced it. It was built in late October. My SA said that it had the old design on it and they replaced it with the new design??
![]() So either they are still using the old design? Or he is fibbing and the new design sucks just as much? Who knows, but beware potential 08 buyers, the fuel pump problem still plagues the 335... |

Yes. People have had pumps fail at 10,000+ miles. This is completely rediculous. Obviously they have not changed or improved the part. It's incredible that they let this known defect continue from year to year.

i've just recently hit 14,000 miles........and just yesterday......bam!! reduced power code. i have a feeling its the fuel pump just because of what i've read on the forums. i thought i got away with it and was just lucky, but i guess not. taking the car in tomorrow. if it turns out to be it, I hope i can get it fixed as quickly as you did. i hate driving their rentals...

Wow, that is discomforting to know that people with 08s are still having fuel pump failure. I wonder why it is that only some people experience this problem? We all have the same fuel pumps, right (well, at least all of us that have a mid-late 07 build date).

But we don't all use the same fuel.

What does your work order say for the part description? The pump on my 7/07 build just went last week at 4,200 miles. Under description my work order says RMFD PUMP. I assume this means my pump was replaced with a remanufactured pump. Like you, I just hope this one lasts.

Damn, it sucks to hear that an '08 even had one go out... I wonder if it was the new pump or the old one. In any case its nice to hear that you had it replaced the same day.

I wonder during summer, no body seems to have fuel pump problems and now it starts popping for both 335 & 535i (BTW, it seems to peak last February for 335i since 535i wasn't even in yet).
Do you Socal folks know for sure if the state mandate ethanol mix during Dec-Feb months? In Washingto state we use to have the mandate during mid-Nov till md-April to have all gasoline to be at least 10% ethanol. Not sure if Wa still doing that. |
