Build Date: May. 2007 Acquisition Date: 07/20/2007 Mileage at Failure: 820 Failure Date: 08/10/2007 Symptoms Experienced: None whatsoever. All of a sudden car lost power and vibrated like hell to a halt. Initial Dealer Estimated Time: "3 weeks Min" Total Time Out of Service Since Acquisition: 10 Days Current Dealer Estimated Time: Picked back up on Aug 20. Got a loaner/type: No loaner available. Gave me an 07 4Runner Contacted BMW NA: Yes. They Paid a payment for me and a BMW Watch, jacket and wallet. TELL THEM YOU ARE MAD and they will make you happy Current Status: Car is running good and strong. At first it felt a bit sluggish, but it might be my imagination. Dont settle for "Sorry". Demand reimbursement and the nicest BMW watch (or Bicycle). You will probably get it. |

Build Date: early March, 2007 Acquisition Date: 05/02/2007 Mileage at Failure: 8800 Failure Date: 08/19/2007 Symptoms Experienced: Had 3 or 4 very slight hesitations on start but it would start normally at other times. Then driving along I got: "Engine malfunction - reduced power". Power was definitely less but I had no trouble driving it 20 miles home. It started normally going to the dealer the next day but the "Engine Malfunction" came on within 3 minutes. Initial Dealer Estimated Time: "5 days Min" Total Time Out of Service Since Acquisition: 3 Days Current Dealer Estimated Time: It took almost 3 days for BMW to approve the PUMA case. The dealer had a HPFP in stock (although the SA said that was not normal). It was fixed within 2 hours after approval (including replacing a stuck VANOS solenoid that showed up on the diagnostic check). Got a loaner/type: No. I also own a 2002 325i that I drove. Contacted BMW NA: No Current Status: Everything seems fine driving it back from the dealer. |

Build Date: April 2007 Acquisition Date: June 2, 2007 Mileage at Failure: Symptoms started ~2500 miles; replaced BEFORE complete failure Symptoms Experienced: Intermitant long crank; became more frequent Initial Dealer Estimate: 2 weeks to get HPFP; I kept car during that time Total Time Out of Service Since Acquisition: 3 days (1 day to diagnose/set up PUMA entry; 2 days to install HPFP and reprogram) Loaner: On 1st visit (Toyota Camry). Didn't request loaner for 2nd visit. Contacted BMWNA: No. Not necessary Current Status: Car running perfectly **knock on wood** Not sure about other dealers, but BMW Santa Barbara was great. Julio, the service manager, knew all about the problem and was able to order the HPFP at the first signs of extended crank time. I did not have to wait until the pump failed. Brought the car in for inspection. Took 1 day and they verified that the HPFP was faulty and needed to be replaced. Part arrived about 2 weeks later. Brought car back in and 2 days later better than new. Coming from BMW Mountain View and Peter Pan my expectations for BMW Santa Barbara were not very high. But these guys are in a different league. Great customer service. Only complaint is the lack of BMW loaners. |
