I have no doubt about the reliability of JB4 and it being the best choice on the market. My motivation for these question was to understand why anyone including BMS would choose/recommend the less powerful map1 over map5 for stock (other than having consistency from a preset tune). My guess was safety for map1 under certain situations but map5 autotunes, so implies some level of safety. Maybe I should have rephrased question this way lol...

Curiousity has taken over... Thanks everyone for the replies.

I believe it is because it is trying to obtain a higher boost target, which is unsafe on a stock restricted exhaust, and although it may run and boost fine, you're putting a huge amount of stress on the turbo and it can affect reliability.

That being said, I installed a downpipe on my car and it isn't too hard. For $289 you can have one too and run map 5 all day long.

I have been running Map 5 since installing last month and have not been overly impressed. I'm going to give Map 1 a try to see if there is a noticeable difference between the two. I am completely stock besides for JB4

A BMS performance intake will really illustrate for you the potential of the JB4. The reason you are not impressed with map 5 is because the engine wants more air but the stock intake can't provide it with enough to let the JB4 shine and snap your head back.

Run a log of both so you can actually see the difference.

Thanks for the reply. I don't want to be boosting beyond even 13 for long periods of time, so I'm started researching a downpipe. Sorry for the thread tangent but how are people running catless with emission testing? Removing it and reinstalling every year is not an option for me. I'm looking at catted for this reason - I believe Cobb has one - any recommendations?

Thanks for the clear advice. I agree and intake will probably be the next thing I do along with FF wires. Once I hook up BMS cables for logging, I plan to see how car is reacting to map 5 and check for significant drops in timing of oil temp.
