Should be 2 holes through the firewall in column... Upper one goes through the fan (if you look close you can see it), lower one is a clear pass through (my USB connection goes through that one).

The DME box is water resistant not water proof. The ecu in my other car sits in the engine compartment with true weather pack connectors open to the elements and gets wet all the time.

I 2nd that. The ecm on my dodge pickup hangs on the side of the motor and has weather pack connectors, it has been in the elements and salt spray for 12 years with no issues....yet.

Has the car been in a accident or crash before you took ownership

Not to my knowledge. There are not signs of damage to the dme enclosure, the grommets from the wiring in/out look fine, the lid was tight and locked.

I did some searching on the net and while not common there are other e90s with water/moister damage to the dme. Guess I am one of they unlucky ones.

Soldered a jumper wire on the dme board and jumped to harness. Was able to take the car out for a spin and it runs normal, no warning lights on. I drove it for about 30 min and heres what came up

2f0d dme radiator blind activation (not worried about this one)
2e7c dme bit-serial data interface signal (concerned)
2f58 dme automatic starting activation (not worried)
2e8b dme intelligent battery senor signal
2e84 dme electric coolant pump communication (concerned)
29f4 dme catalytic converter convertion ( not worried I removed cobb have no cats)
29f5 dme catalytic converter convertion 2 (same)

Car did not overheat, and coolant pump seems to be running. From my research the 2e8b, 2e84, and 2e7c and related on a similar communication loop. I am guessing my dme has a glitch in from the moisture, and that's where the codes are from...or could the moisture in the dme damaged some of the other components (water pump or battery sensor) Also my oil level sensor reads inactive.
