Have not read the whole thread - but I bet it is a shot of NOS.

Could I request a 1/4 vbox run with the new power as well if you can not access a 1/4 track in addition to the write up?

If the roads are wintery where you live, just point South and drive till you find a nice clear patch.

Which clutch are you going with? Mr. 5 did a ACT with good results so sounds like that one is already a proven success?
Lol, I never do teasers and you guys know it. I simply posted a dyno.

I will a smoked clutch right now, so I couldn't go to the strip even if I wanted to.

With respect to which clutch? I can tell you I am not going with ACT. I am concerned that their clutch simply won't hold up to the power levels I will be taking this car to. There are some great options out there and I will be decided very soon.

BOOST3D, the review is close to done. It should be posted in a day or two.

I will not put the NST pulley on my car period. I am simply not comfortable removing the vibration damper.

Thank you for the trust cn555ic.

When doing these types of mods to the N54 engine, it would probably be wise to budget an additional $2k (or more) for the inevitable head repairs that are likely to follow…
This is simply conjecture. We have no facts whatsoever to support this at all.

That is a load of crap. The only way to find the limit is to push some cars till they pop.

For years people said that 700whp was the max for 996 turbos on a stock block, and now as tuning has gotten better we have cars running 1000whp+ hp on stock internals. It was the same thing with supras till people demonstrated that you can push huge numbers with them.

and fwiw 2k will not even touch the rebuild on one of these n54s, you should have said 8-10k.

If you're quoted "8-10k" to replace a blown head gasket on the N54, then you need to find a new mechanic...

alot more then a lifted head occurs with to much boost. . . .think bent rods and a destroyed head or a full rebuild.

The only way to find the limit is to push it and see what breaks. Don't pass off internet "wisdom" as fact and say "33%" is all it can take.

The n54 might be good to 800 hp or 550 or whatever we will not know till someone does it.

I haven't done any stress calculations on the N54 powertrain, so you're correct in stating that it's complete conjecture on my part. However, a prudent engineer would do the stress analysis and know the "facts" BEFORE modding a $15k BMW engine...

I am sorry, but I don't agree at all. If that is the way you operate, then more power to you and I do respect that. One year ago people would have said you are crazy for running over 14 psi, well they have changed their mind a year later. 2 years ago people said your tranny could never handle more than 375 rwhp daily, well they were wrong. There are tons of examples of engines running well more than the 33% you state without problem for years. The limits haven't been reached yet, but I am sure someday we will have a better idea. I personally take my hat off to those that are pioneering the future of the N54.

We should not state as fact what we believe the N54 or drivetrain is worth because we don't know.

I wouldn't go around comparing :
a closed deck iron block with essentially stock forged internals
to :
an aluminum open deck block with who knows what inside.

Normally it doesn't matter, but once you start on the '1000whp for all I know' train...

I am not going down that road at all. I am not being unrealistic here. I am just saying placing a numeric value on this is not wise. I have built a number cars over the years and I have learned many times that speculation is of no help.

Not criticizing.
I simply think that what's unrelated, is unrelated.

scheherazade you missed my point. I am not comparing a GT1 block Porsche engine to the N54.

I am comparing the tuning evolution of platforms. It takes people like FBI(s) to push the limit and prove what can be done. I applaud all efforts to test the limits of this engine.

Please don’t misquote me by posting that I said “33% is all it [the N54 engine] can take”. I merely stated that 400hp is 33% more than 300hp (which is a fact known to be true by most HS freshmen). Setting up and knocking down a straw man certainly doesn’t pass for “internet wisdom” on your part. Please feel free to refute my original position though…

After 4 days and an exhaustive write, the review is up. I apologize if it ever seemed like I was teasing the review.
