I'm torn. My 36 month lease quote from Feb is 10 dollars more expensive then March's 27 month lease. I guess owning the car for 9 months less and paying 10 dollars a month is better, but the interest (MF) is almost double, it's just that the residual is like 14% higher

My CA had a good point about the 27mo lease: at least in California, if have to pay for that third full year of registration anyway at 24mos ($400-500), so it would virtually negate most of my savings. Plus, that puts me right at the release of the F32, and I'd prefer to not pay msrp and if possible, not have to deal with the issues associated with the F32's first year.

But when you get a new car don't you transfer tags from your old car? So it's not wasted money.

I don't know if it's different in California... the CA DMV website says:

"A refund is not due if you paid the registration fees and then sold the vehicle before the expiration date. Any adjustment of the fees is an issue to be addressed between the buyer and seller when establishing the selling price of the vehicle. "

I'll do more research... does anyone in CA know definitively what happens to registration fees paid for 12mos in advance (but the car is returned and a new one is bought/leased within those 12mos)?

EDIT: Looks like we get shafted in CA since we pay for the entire year in advance, so non-12mo interval leases aren't ideal here.

Plates stay on the car here in CA unless they're vanity plates.

P.S. We had the rates about noon PST on the 1st, usually get them pretty quickly.

Oh in new york, we own our plates so they transfer from car to car unless you do not want to do so, so the 27 month promo is still cheaper than my 36 feb promo

OK so I found the residials and money factors on another board. It's a little difficult to read the way they posted it but I think you can figure it out

One of the main expenses on shorter lease is the 1st payment (acquisition, bank, doc etc) which is usually spread over 36 months. Now it's only 27, so lease ends up being around $10 more expensive per month.
