Unless you see snow, there's no reason to get the DWS. The DW is a better performer.

Going to get rid of run flats, is there a certain spec for tires to fit the OEM wheels? Have '09 18" factory wheels. Thanks

I got a set on PS2 non RFT's last weekend. I also got a can of "fix a flat", a plug kit and an air compressor. I am going to be doing a long road trip with my son this summer. What is the best bet for a spare wheel/tire?

How many of you, by getting rid of run-flats, have a spare tyre now??

...no one, maybe?

Run-flats are there for safery reasons, keep them!! They keep the car on the road, no matter how fast you drive

Actually, I have both a full size spare on matching factory wheel, and a compact E60 spare, and a Mobility Kit, and a Jacking Kit - use in different combos on long trips based on how much room I need in the trunk. In normal everyday trips back & forth to work, I usually don't include ANY of the above even though I have them available.

I would say the main reason for move to RFT's was because BMW decided to save $$ by designing out the spare tire storage area + not supplying a spare + not supplying a jack.

A non-RFT of same speed rating as a RFT tire is no less safe. Nothing special about RFT's makes them 'safer' to drive at hi speed. Speed rating and handling characteristics are functions of tire internal consrtuction and compounds used.

Might be able to find one (E60 spare) on eBay or at local wrecking yard.

I have seen them on eBay - but not very frequently for the E60 version, and normally they are asking $200+

-OR-

You could just gamble that any flat you get will be due to tread puncture - then all you would need is either the BMW Mobility Kit ($144), or you can use the Conti Kit which is basically the same as BMW Kit (just not in a bag that says 'BMW' on it, for around $85.

Both are basically a portable air compressor system that plugs into your cig lighter that also contain a pressurized can of special tire 'slime' that supposedly will not damage your TPMS. The unit runs automatically after you hook to tire valve and push 'GO' - 1st injects tire slime - then inflates tire to proper pressure.

I think Tire Rack sells the Conti Kit, & of course, Tischer sells the BMW Mobility Kit.

never drove on the summer RFTs ... put PS2 non-RFTs on there.. love them, but wish there were a spare and easy jacking solution. if i got on a long road trip i'll put a full size spare and my race-jack in the trunk.

It isn't as easy as this... the car's suspension is designed for a very stiff side wall like the RFTs. you change the type of tires, you will have cause and effect....

I noticed when I went with my Bridgestone Pole Position 235/265 without doing any other mods - stock all around - the softer non-rft folded over on agressive cornering. I then had to add more camber and suspension work to get the handling I wanted.

The grip was a BIG difference off the line in the rear though, you will like that.

NOTE: the ride was like a hot knife through butter after it - beautiful, less noise...

Just the downside was the hard aggressive cornering wasn't quite as good - in my opinion. Also, you lose some sharpness in steering response with the softer sidewalls.

You might just need to add the M3 tension and wishbones to the front with the non Rfts... this would be cheap to do and would have big benefits.

tighter handling, less tramlining and more neg camber for sharper cornering.

Lots to consider... think about what you want in the car and if you are prepared to mod further like I did. If you are not prepared to mod, think carefully about losing the RFTs.

I've only had the car a week & am already sick of the runflats. I plan on doing wheels anyway so I will get new non-runflat tires with them.

i keep them cause the wifey drives the car most of the time and if she gets a flat and since our E92 didnt come with a spare, she can drive to a tire shop to get it fixed

Ditched them in favor of Bridgestone Potenza RE760s, much better ride quality.
