I had really good luck pulling the rotors off, hitting the hat with a wire brush, wiping up the dust, then painting them with a matte black high-temp paint. I masked off most of the rotor surface but a mm or two of overlap just gets cut right through by the pad and leaves a perfect line.

Looks great, the hats just disappear and leave only the pretty shiny rotors, exactly what you'd want. And the paint keeps the hats from rusting at all, of course.

Going to try this - thanks for the tip. Mine are new and without rust, but they stick out like a sore thumb.
