I'm also guessing that those pressures don't increase during times of economic hardship, again that too would be ridiculous because police services are paid for solely by tax dollars definitely not by writing citations. I'm guessing that most departments (like the one my cousin works in) are run by unicorns and magicians, making magic money to pay for things, what a magical world they live in - must be fantastic and awe-inspiring Lastly I'm sure if we were to plot all the tickets throughout the year, we probably wouldn't see spikes at the end of every month. You're probably right, I'm the misinformed guy making the stupid comments, or am I the stupid guy making the misinformed comments? Once upon a time people believed that the Sun traveled around the Earth, and they also believed that the world was flat because someone said - 'That's just the way it is' - then those thoughts were challenged and as a species, we moved forward. This video was also probably shot on a movie set, but it still makes me well up Mr. McMuffin, you're entitled to your opinion as I am to mine, at the end of the day the one thing, probably the only thing you and I have in common is that we're both expressing opinions. While it may be ok for you to call someone else's opinion stupid- it just seems juvenile to me, but maybe that's why I'm the stupid one Until you show me otherwise, I'll believe what I believe. To each his own I guess. For the record, not all tickets are discretionary. Some things must be enforced - as they should be. With that ladies & gentleman I've got a lot more stupid research to do and I will keep you all posted. Try and generate as much interest as you can for getting this law changed. I love this forum, I'm grateful to have come across it in 2005, there is really no other car forum that has been as helpful to me, as this one has. So Thank You!

Been in law enforcement going on five years now, City and State. In those five years I don't recall a Sergeant or Lieutenant in their briefings ever saying or hinting to go and cite people to revenue money for our departments. Why, because citing you or anyone else doesn't pay for my salary. For example, the CHP gets paid by you registering your car every year. They don't even get a penny for every speeding ticket they give, but I'm sure they wish they did. My salary now comes from the Feds and City services and taxes. I'll tell you what tickets Police departments get money from, seat belt tickets and DUI's. So much for being a smart ass huh? |

Looking back at my comments I don't ever remember implying or stating that the CHP generated their revenue from citations, trust me I know about the General Fund and how that all works. Believe me I do. I'm pretty sure I used the term Traffic Officers and Police Services. I even defended the CHP officer who wrote me a ticket when attacks were made against him personally - because I don't know him personally. As a law abiding citizen, I sure as hell wouldn't want anything to happen to him, believe me. I could prove, if I cared to, that revenue *is* generated from citations (don't confuse revenue with profit) - there are plenty of city council meetings on the record to make my point, but that's not what this thread is about. What we (myself and some others) are working on is a bill to generate more money for the General Fund. Providing all officers with the tools to properly enforce an amended tint law, allowing them to be safe (I wouldn't want harm to come to a family member of mine) while allowing me to protect myself, my passengers and the environment. And lastly as an officer of the law, thank you for doing what you do. I don't come to meets often, but I would love to meet you in person and get your personal opinion about tints and officer safety in regards to them. Believe me, I'm not an asshole - I just don't like being called stupid. Now, can we shake and move on?

After a bit of reading - don't quote me on this - the CHP is within it's legal right to cite you for an infraction regardless of you residing in CA or not. If FL allows tints and CA doesn't then you may still get a ticket in CA even if your car is registered in FL. VA is another state that (I believe) does the same thing. Usually the officer will let it slide if it's for a front plate or tints, but if you're speeding you're speeding. The best practice would be to understand the law of the state you traveling *to*, not just the state you live in. Go to the local CHP office and talk it out with them, they may be able to sign off on it... you never know. Hope that's more clear. Good night folks - it's been an interesting night. I've got code to write, shit to read and Aladdin Sane to listen to. Peace Everybody.

Oh and no need to thank me because I'm not out there enforcing the law anymore. My department has other priorities like providing security for Elected Officials and It's employees. I'm sure we'll meet one day and discuss about the chicken shit tint law. I'm surprised he gave you a ticket for such a small infraction, unless he knew you were now living in Cali. Like stated before, you must abide by the laws of the place you're at regardless of where you're from. GL |

My high school buddy works for the State Department providing security like you do, while you try and play it down - it's no small job, especially in this day and age - so Thanks Man!

My department is similar to County Police, so we deal with crazies all the time. I only hope you never come across some of my colleagues cuz they will give you a ticket for everything they can That's just the way small departments roll unfortunately. |

I believe he is officially employed by the State Dept., he goes by the Title: Special Agent ****** he secures diplomats, moves them from location and I believe they assist detail duties with Secret Service and State Police when escorting our politicians around. It's crazy too because when we are in high school, he was the funny guy. We were all convinced he was going to be a lawyer, he ended up going to law school and decided to do this instead. Kudos to him I hope I don't come across you colleagues either, aside from the tints - my car is bone stock. I just try not to draw attention to myself, I drive like a normal person. At the end of the day whether I agree with the law or not it doesn't matter, until the law is modified, the officer is within his right to write me up. I drive up the coast all the time for work and I have been stopped on numerous occasions by CHP. They usually look at the car, but they've never ticketed me for 40% tints - they rather send me on my way and stop the guy that is doing 130MPH in dense fog. They see I'm not a threat and move on. Everybody is different I guess.

Thanks for clearing up the state police thing, for some reason I thought it was the other way around, didn't put 2 and 2 together. Now I realized that I haven't seen a State Police officer since I was a teenager.
