i put on some ebc yellow pads lst year. So far so good. No squeaks - less dust that the originals. Far less in fact than oem's but I use bilberry on the wheels & that stuff is very very good.

Would I buy again ?? yes I would.

I dont give my brakes that hard a time to be honest but every now & again I will brake as hard as I can coming off the dual carridgeway at about 70 ish (when it quiet) just to keep them sharp so to speak.

If they are that much better, is it wise to put them on the back without upgrading the fronts too?

I did mine recently:

£60 for front pads approx. £50 for rears (Euro car parts - textar)
£90 for 2x front discs (EBC Brakes direct)
£60 for 2x rear discs
£25 for 2x wear sensors (Euro car parts)

If you were getting an indi to do it then factor in 3h labour at approx 70 an hour.. Although it might be cheaper oop north.

BMW charge double that of course.

HTH.

There is only 1 sensor on the front, 1 on the back. They clip into only 1 of the pads at one side only.

You'll probably find the costs slightly higher than megas 320? on a 335 due to bigger discs. I did a thread a while back for my 330 (search my threads, can't link as I'm only on my phone) which should be similar, and also commented on disc thickness issues. I think fr or back 335 discs are slightly bigger.

330d rears = 335i rears exactly.
Fronts I think are biger on the 335i.

I also went the EBC slot and dimpled discs all round route. Only as mine were shot after tracking it.
OEM are overpriced and I couldnt justify 4k on 2pc Brembos etc.
With redstuff first (no better than oem) now Yellowstuff - much better at high temps.

Worth seeking out a brake lathe once all new and installed.
On-car machining will iron out any possible runout issues which affect a lot of large diameter rotors later on.
Often the DTV probs don't arise until 2-3k miles after fitting when the car starts shuddering from speed.

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do the on-car barake lathe thing on the 335 with its huge 1piece rotors.
Do it soon after installation and you are good to go for a couple of years in most cases longer.

Better than new

335i brakes cost a good bit more. EBC take nearly £180 for their standard front discs and £120 for rear. Yellow stuff are £128 front and £71 rear. Add the sensors and you are over £500.

I clocked these on ebay but who would dare try these first? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-E90-...item27bba0832f

3 hours labour is a bit much at a garage for changing the brakes surely?

3hours to do all corners properly is about right.
And I would add another £120 or so and get them machined on-car after for longevity.

now youre askin...........................

errrr just remebered there's some info in my bmw folder in my emails. Here we go.....

http://www.brakesint.co.uk/

2 x BDS6239 @ 43.89 = 87.78 VENTED BRAKE DISC
2 x BDS6442 @ 33.30 = 66.60 VENTED BRAKE DISC
1 x BPW0247 @ 9.09 = 9.09 PAD WEAR SENSOR
1 x BPW0270 @ 8.92 = 8.92 3 SERIES SENSOR

Carriage 6.75
Sub total 179.14
+Vat @ 17.5% 31.35
******
Total Amount 210.49

Pads were from http://www.rapidcarpartsltd.co.uk/ - i originally opted for the reds but they hadnt got them in but they had the yellows so went for them due to time constraints - not sure on price though but must have been about £140 IIRC.

They discs weigh an absolute bloody ton. The courier was well bolloxed after delivering them

ps. fitted with my mate who has his own garage & did the fluid at the same time plus sprayed the hubs the same colour as the car (black)

pps - after 6k miles absolutely no lip forming on the discs & cant feel any raised areas ( seems like they are wearing flat & even)

Oh not sure I need discs by the way, it was just a comment from last weeks MOT that got me thinking about getting some rear brake pads ready, he said "rear pads a getting a bit worn, should see you through the winter though"

I'll have a look as soon as it stops raining !

Yep - apols. I was replying to the specific guy who asked, who also had a 320d. Should have made that clear as ofcourse the OP has a 335 and yes it will cost more in those sizes

I've never heard of this before.. Then again I'm not particularly long in the tooth or mechanically savvy.

Is there a site or resource that explains the benefits and procedure of having this done?

It seems to me like it would just wear down the disk and cause you to need it replacing sooner which is not a good thing.. But you know your stuff so I'm sure it's worthwhile.

I usually just bed them in with 10x 40-0mph stops followed by 10x 70-0mph stops or similar?
