You guys are correct! I don't know how I missed that it isn't symmetrical w.r.t. that plane.

I spun it around this morning and the vibration is gone!

I appreciate it (I should have taken pictures before swapping diffs and shafts.

The guibo is shown in several pictures above. It is actually symmetrical, and is installed per FSM with arrows pointing to flanges (there are metal bumps in it that seat into corresponding holes in the transmission output flange).
How about seeking to understand and to help before jumping to criticize.
How does your foot taste? Is it delicious?

He surely deserves it

I'm glad we found a possible cause of vibrations after LSD or clutch install.

Your extreme lack of tact and master of delivery is disappointing. That was my point.

I've built many an engine, but spinning the bearing 180 is an easy mistake anyone could make.

Sure, but anyone who works [should be working] on cars would catch it right after they bolted it in before even moving on. If you missed your drive shaft in the shape of a V and the huge wobble it would produce when you run it in the air, AND couldn't figure it out after a week and apparently multiple heads, you shouldn't have been doing the work yourself.

Try not to kill yourself with the next mistake anyone could make.

If you took your own advice and tried to understand before criticizing, I wouldn't be giving you sh*t right now.

the bearing offsets the shaft roughly 1cm which doesn't bend the shaft in a "huge v", nor is it readily appearant when viewed on jack stands.

Try being more constructive.

"huge" is a relative adjective, in the case of the drive shaft that angle is huge.I could have just laughed at you and not helped, didn;t even see a single thank you.

Try being more appreciative.

TypeC you are good, nice fix! You did a fairly involved install, had some issues that you were able to diagnose and take care of. People are going to hate because they think you need to be a certified BMW master tech to change the oil on these cars. LOL

BMW techs are jokes actually, just so you know your implication is wrong.

I agree with you on that. But, is it necessary to dis multiple times on a fellow enthusiast for some trial and error installation of an lsd? Sigh, people gonna hate, what can you do? Enjoy the new rear!

My unsolicited 2c worth: Take a little reaming if someone dishes it out and turns out you were wrong and they were right. No sense being so tightly wound up, next time you might not get suggestions.

I have made my fair share of bubus and been eaten alive by some. I bit my lip and it all turned out fine with a bit of a bruised ego that heal real quick.

Interested to read this. i have just had a quaife installed and above 45mph I can feel a slight vibration and a rumbling noise that is kind of like a worn wheel bearing.

Doesn't happen til the speed get up to above 45mph though. Seems like a balance or worn/damaged bearing kind of issue but not sure what could have went wrong.

if anyone has any ideas what might cause this then please let me know.

I don't get it. O-cha didn't criticize you. He simply in very short sentences told you exactly what was wrong. You then got all in a tiff feeling like he was criticizing you and now you accuse him of not being constructive?

As a casual observer, you're like 100% off base.

I think I'll have a look at this tonight. So this centre bearing is eccentric, yeah? So it needs to be in the position that effectively lifts the prop up away from the true centre of the bearing housing?

Hoping this is easy to access with the car up on a trolley jack too!

Yes, the bigger "half" of the bearing goes into the tunnel. You have to remove the exhaust and heatshield to make enough room to spin it. You can do it all on jackstands.

Was the op issue with improper installation of the front of the driveshaft?

I just took off my pumpkin and didn't remove the front of the driveshft ...just the rear where the pumpkin connects to with the 50mm nut. Did I do the install incorrectly? My driveshft is still connected up front.

No, the issue was the center bearing spun around when I removed it, without me knowing and I installed it upside down.

The way you did it is much easier and you'll never have this problem because you didn't unbolt it.

Thanks for the help guys.

Nope. You can leave the drive shaft connected (on both ends), and simply undo the u-joint, flip it and reattach.

Good luck.
