As far as getting the State/County to pay for it, I can give you my experience with it.
Last spring, I was on a freeway entrance ramp and hit a pothole that blew out 2 of my tires. I had heard something about getting the state to reimburse me for the accident. So I decided why not, it was a slow week at work and didn't mind wasting a few hours to see what happens. There were multiple forms to fill out, time, location, damage, estimate, towing company, ect... Well I filled everything out and sent it to the state. A few weeks later I called them up to get the status of my claim. They were still working on it, but about a week later I received a letter in the mail stating that they were not paying for it. As it turns out, the state must be notified of the pothole, and have a specified time period to fix it before a claim can be made. It turns out that the pothole was reported within minutes after I claimed my accident happened. I don't know if it was coincidence, or if there were just trying to weasel their way out of paying a claim. I'm sure this varies from state to state, but it gives you a good idea of what I went through. If you have a few spare hours, it doesn't hurt to give it a try. But I wouldn't go into it expecting anything. |
