Hello I am new to this forum but have been an avid lurker......
I need a little input on shocks for a E90 335i Sport Pack. I have been searching but no really hard of good responses. I recently purchased 19" BBS wheels and new "BMW Sport Shock Kit" which after the install combined with H&R Sport Springs is horrible. ![]() The compression or bound is good, but the rebound is horrendous, you will come of your seat.....the shock cannot control the springs when load is taken off the springs....its bouncy I know itis a give and take unless you go with a coilover system I have had Bilstein Sport's and Eibach's on my E36 and H&R and Bilstein's on a C Class, which I was happy but both were riding on 18". My Question does anyone here have a Koni Sport or FSD set up with H&R? Which is a smoother riding shock absorber.... I did research and the Bilstein out for the E90 even though they are Yellow is a HD Shock. Please corect me in I am wrong. BTW I am selling this set if anyone wants it for a 100.00 it has less than 700 miles on the shocks and I have all the hardware....maybe best with OE sport springs came across this video...maybe a repost Sorry for the long post. I have a AUTOLOGIC if you guys need any coding done in Northern Virginia |

Are these Performance shocks version 1 or 2? Did you use the supplied bump stops or re-use the Sports?
I am about to install Eibach Pro springs and Ver. 1 Performance shocks with Ver.2 bump stops. Hope the ride is better than what you are describing ![]() |

I have a brand new BMW Performance SUSPENSION KIT for sale paired with Sport springs if you need them. According to forum reviews a great set up.

There is a reason why shocks and springs need to be matched. I can't believe how many people try to combine different parts and are amazed that it didn't work. V1 performance kit is made for Sport springs, not Eibach, not H&R, SPORT OEM springs. V2 shocks are made for performance springs. Bilstein HD is made for stock and sport springs (even though they are 0.5 inch lower) and has some very aggressive compression and rebound numbers, very close to V1 shocks. In fact so close that I suspect that V1 might be Bilstein HD shocks that's a little shorter.
The question is what are you trying to do? Lower the car or actually get good performance? |

I bought the v1 shocks and eibach springs because I had read they matched well. I understand the v1 shocks were made for ZSP springs, but I did my research and see that the spring rates of the Eibach are very similar to ZSP. Shouldn't this be a decent setup?
I do suspect the H&R to be a mismatch.... |

Eibachs are progressive, bmw sport springs are not. I dont know how eibach measures their spring rates, so its hard to guess about compatibility. If i were to buy eibach i'd go with their shocks too, they will be the best match. I am sure eibach makes a very nice product, they are a well respected company, but most people buy it because of drop, not performance. When u see eibach name on a race car, that suspension is custom, in a whole different world than $200 spring set. |

I used the supplied bump stop, which were identical from the factory sport suspension....these are supposed to be good with Eibach's...but an EPIC failure with H&R...I would spend the extra money for Koni's. Everytime bump it is absolutely PAINFUL for me that the car is subjected to that...feels like its bottoming out. Like I said the compression is okay, its the rebound that is rediculous.....sorry not trying to burst anyone bubble.....i should have gone with my initial intended set up. Spoke to a good friend finally at Bilstein...they no longer make Bilstein Sport for the US market...they can special order you a set 4-6 weeks wait. He claims that Bilstein only now offers TC (touring class) which is not monotube shock, its a twin tube design. Last edited by München; 06-18-2012 at 11:59 PM.. |

The H&R springs probably lowers the car to such a degree that you are at or almost sitting on top of the bumpstops causing the poor ride (with minimal suspension travel, once your car hits and fully compresses the bumpstops, your spring rate becomes super high b/c you run out of suspension travel). You may actually do better if you switched to firmer and/or taller springs as you will keep the cars off the bumpstops. Bottom line, as everyone else mentioned, get a matched set of dampers/springs to ensure spring rate, suspension travel, compression and rebound damping is matched. |
