4 cylinder 3 series will be fitted with stop/start technology which will imrove mpg further, but 6 cylinder variants are not being fitted with this in MY08.

None of these technologies will be available for retrofitting, IMO.

Can't wait for my 335i m-sport coupe. It is being built in early Sept for an early Oct delivery .
Indeed- retrofitting of direct-injection engines would be a waste of time- it would not be at all cost effective & would probably be very difficult to carry out, if at all possible.
You'd be better off buying a new car.

More info regarding the new MY08 direct-injection engines & regenerative braking is available here.

All the best.

Thumbs up E92 Wins Again

Hey, E92 owners - you just won again. This time against Audi S5 & Infinity G37 (which has been getting v. good reviews in US). Victory is sweet!

I agree! I will get my new E92 325d in two weeks time, stickshift with
M-package, navi and silver metallic/red leather combo.

Hartge remaps this 325d to 271 HP / 592 NM, excactly the same as the 330d.
So in this way you get a good performance and quite affordable too.

And of course if I could afford an M3 or 335i I would have bought one of those......but car tax in Norway are crazy and a 325d cost the same as a M3 in Sweden.....

I would never choose a 4-pot diesel, I think they are good powerful engines but they lack character and soul. The 320i (170 hp) is too weak in my opinion, and not so nice soundwise either.

The 325i and 330i are supersmooth, but I think they lack torque, so I would rather have a 6-pot diesel. (I had 3 petrol 6-pot BMWs in a row, and Im tired of the lack of torque!!!)
I will surely miss the nice petrol sound, but the 6-pot diesel are quite smooth and very strong and driveable through the entire rev-range.

So if your on a budget, 325d (Hartge tuning, 271 hp/ 592 NM) and if your loaded, 335i or M3

I would never ever choose a 335d over a 335i.

The soundstage of a petrol car and the smoothness of the engine and the high revs can never be beaten by a diesel, as long as you have a huge petrol engine with wonderful low-end torque like the 335i :-)

U got my vote buddy.... hot oil, petrol and screaming metal wins the day every day. I once said "the day a diesel wins Le Mans is that day I give up going" Audis ( and now peugots) are ruining the experience Dem oil boirners just daynt sounds likes a proper racin moitor !!

The way things are going the only screaming metal petrol engines you will find in Central London will be in a Smart Car.
