535Xi: the exhaust flap solenoid is in a normally closed position. Applying vacuum causes the flap to open. If you disconnect the solenoid wire, you are putting the flap permanently closed, not open.
The only way to correct this is to bypass the vacuum valve in the left rear quarter panel of the trunk. (Disconnect the solenoid harness if you have a Procede for diagnostic invisibility purposes). Use a connector to hook the engine vacuum hose directly to the exhaust solenoid vacuum line (bypass the valve). Now the valve is always open when the engine is running. This also happens to be the way the exhaust valves work on a 2010 760Li.

This is completely backwards of what has been described in the 335 setup. The exhaust flap is apparently normally in an open position and closes when vacuum is applied. By disconnecting the harness to the solenoid or plugging the vacuum line at the solenoid (golf T mod or BB in the tubing), you remove all vacuum to the valve and it stays open.

Can anyone else confirm the difference on other X35 series?
Any ideas on why BMW would do this different on one series to another?

If so, will need to update the Procede user manual to reflect these differences.

Thanks
You are correct - the 535 is backwards than all the 335 related exhaust flap posts. You don't need any extra connectors. Disconnecting the hose out of the solenoid (the exhaust valve side) and the one going into it where the hardline meets the rubber hose gives a place to bypass the solenoid without any adapters or extra pieces.

I've tried to unplug it and it's really giving me trouble... I don't want to pull to hard for fear of breaking something-- was it very difficult for you to unplug the hose?

Does bending the hose and zip tying it end in the same results?

Why not just disconnect the wiring hiding in the trunk?

You need to completely block the vaccum on that line.

I am worried about codes...I don't have the stuff to clear them. It's still under the manufacture warranty and is a CPO.

They don't care about that code. Means nothing to them. The dealer usually unplugs the cable anyway to stop rattling.

The connector is in the trunk behind the drivers side tail light. Take off the panel and you will see it. Here is a link to the plug: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80661

Someone needs to come up with a harness that plugs in between the stock connectors and has a switch attached to it. I work in the city and don't mind the extra sound for short drives; more than 15 minutes on the highway can get annoying though. Instead of plugging/unplugging all the time, a rocker switch poking out of the small removable carpeted trunk panel would be great!

I'd do it myself, but I don't want to cut into the factory wiring. Anyone know where to find connectors that will work with the stock pieces?

I feel it's just a tad louder than stock on cold starts. Once everything is warmed up it's just like driving around in DS mode for ATs.
