roger, glad to hear that. I guess it would be a sad day for us all if the new engine and DDE were still failing! It looks like I will most def be investing in the extended warranty just in case this issue surfaces in the 335d I'll be purchasing within the next week hopefully.

Lol you are lucky to have gotten a new engine for NO reason. Lol, goes to show how aware BMW really is about these problems!

They definitely are aware of the problem. Just spoke to the head foreman yesterday at the stealership and he said that a combination of the DPF system and the subpar quality of diesel in the US is the culprit of our carbon buildup woes. He said it's not a design flaw but when I asked him why carbon cleaning is not part of the maintenance warranty, he chuckled and said "That's a valid reason but those decisions go way above my pay grade." Then he told me it would be wise to get the extended warranty and not to solely rely on the CA emissions warranty if the problem occurs. Thought I was going to hear some good news.

Does the DDE have to fail for BMW SA to replace it? I had many issues with my fuel injectors, which they replaced under warranty at around 46k. But my DDE has never been replaced.

I am thinking that the DDE has to completely fail before they replace it.

No I think the others were replaced without completely failing, if you end up with another injector code make sure to tell the dealership to look into the DDE. Its obviously a documented issue but I think the dealership has to follow the right process to get the DDE covered, since youve already had a bunch of replacements that should take care or that part of the process. FYI there is a TSB out there for the DDE, though its actual description is unusual and while it describes the zero adaptation as being the fault of the DDE, doesnt really relate it well to other times than cold weather while going downhill

Digital Diesel Electronics = DDE. The electronic engine management system. Sometimes referred to as the ECU, which I believe is Electronic Control Unit.

Things like rough idle, abrupt engine power, decrease in gas mileage, etc.

oky my idling is not perfect but you hardly notice the difference. I have power loss at all revs. I think about 20%. Gas consumption little higher. The biggest difference is the sound of the engine, its more like a v6. No misfires or smoke. I think its worse when its hot outside or when the engine gets hot. Its very consistent. The engine feels like its running at higher temperature. I used to open the cooler bottle after driving it hard but now its under pressure. It doesn't blow the coolant out but its hotter than it used to be.

Nope there's no lights or warnings. Not sure if there are error codes on the computer. But nothing visible on the dash.
