i would tape it up alot more when filling and priming. Afterward, I would remove most if not all of the tape and just cover up the hood and grills... but honestly.. I have never done color.. soooo I am a little hesitant on recommending anything... at the end of the day.. get the bumper professionally filled and colored is still the best solution BY FAR.

Not necessarily, you'd be surprised how some '"so called professional body shops" handle projects like these and charge an arm and leg for the service. It can defiantly be done going the route of the OP with rattle cans and look good. I just don't want it to stick out like a sore thumb (the paint). I am confident in being able to able file the holes, sand and primer (play around with this before on an older vehicle). Im just curious as to how the blend on crimson red will go and if anyone has done it on a darker vehicle. Thanks for the input though.

it is more of the new vs weather/aged old paint difference. sanding will make it smooth, but i think you will still feel a slight difference.

So FYI, this does not work well with any holes that have really warped the bumper outwards, or for more than 4 holes... the areas became too large to blend in for my DIY experience. Paint match with BSM was great, though overall I did a bad job with the clear. Getting my bumper fixed professionally now
