I wash my Bimmer more often in the winter (gets dirty more often) than in the spring, summer and autumn combined! I wait for a warm day with little or no wind. Sometimes I add warm water to my bucket so my hands don't freeze off! Once I'm done, I pull the car into the garage to chamois it off while listening to some good tunes!

Got to do it on a warm day so that the driveway has an hour or two in the sunshine to dry. Don't want someone to slip and sue me!

Hand wash for $25

Of course they still swirl the crap out of it. I just wait till spring time to get all the swirls out. Oh well.

I guess I'm not the only crazy one out there. I live in the east coast with snow occaionally, how do you wash the bottom of your car? I heard all the salt can really mess up your exhasut, muffler, etc.

But with the car sitting so low, how would you do that? Just reach underneath?

Take it to Flagship on Bou near Target because they have heated water. Reach underneath and spray.

Back in Michigan I'd tolerate the cold garage and give it a good wash every 3-4 weeks; and swing by the touchless wash every 4-5 days in between.

Being able to clean my car during the winter is one advantage to living in Phoenix. Just detailed the interior yesterday.

Living in Boston it can be a problem. You can wait for a warm day and then wash but the undercarrage wash is really needed to get rid of the salt. Personally I kept my old Rav 4 for the bad driving.

I just go to a touchless and get the undercarriage wash too. I haven't tried the self wash bays yet. Might try that this year. I wash as long as its over 25 or so.

For all of you guys that are washing in cold temps with a hose...you should really look into a rinseless car was product like ONR. That's what I'll be using this winter in my garage. It'll save you a lot of aggrevation and frozen limbs!

I may even invest in a pair of these:

Funny. I am 1 of 4 guys who voted "don't wash it", and I'm a detailer with a heated and waterproofed garage. Personally, I find it's worthless to wash in the winter, but when I say wash I mean a real wash. The car just gets dirty too quickly, so all I do is powerwash the wheels and undercarriage then drive off.

Optimum No Rinse car wash. You dilute it into 2 gallons of water and simply sponge your car down with the solution. Warm water can be used in the winter. No hoses or extra water to freeze on the ground. It's completely paint safe and you'll probably start using it all year round once you try it.

if the temp will be above 38, I wash it myself. I wash it outdoors so I have to becareful the sidewalk and driveway doesn't ice up. I don't like my car swirled up by car washes. Touchless or not, the guys that dry the car are the ones that induce swirls. They are using teh same dirty rag to dry your car that was used on the car before and the one before that and ...... You get the idea..
Rather keep the car dirty until I can wash it myself.

I haven't had any problems w/ swirls from touchless washes yet. I go to one at a gas station which is right next to a Turtle Wax. And I've actually had people ask why I'm not going next door so they can do a nice handwash on my car. haha

In AZ now, we obviously don't have any issues washing in the winter. Makes me think back to when I lived in NJ and I tried washing the car in the garage with the door shut. It was so cold outside that the water seeping between the concrete and the door froze it solidly to the ground and I couldn't open it...duh...last time I did that - LOL
