I already removed the separation dam inside the airbox (the thin plastic that separates the snow mode side from the normal mode side), and I've thought of removing the spring-loaded pressure relief (mode switching) valve instead of hogging out the airbox. |

I actually went back to the AEM filter setup, with a couple different modifications from the first version I had been running. It shows less pressure drop than the modified OEM airbox at the top end.

TDI, can you take pictures of your AEM setup? Read your threads but didn't see anything of that setup, unless I missed it. If so tell me and I'll go back through it. Thanks

Seems I remember that LarrySing told us his scoops wore a hole into his condenser coil. Not sure if that was an install issue or if trimming was perhaps needed to avoid rub.

Sorry for the delayed response. Been working a lot ...
I didn't post those specific measurements. But I found the old data and some pics. Here are some redneck manometer tests for pressure drop of the modified OEM airbox (the Filter Minder thread has more details/data on what was done) vs the AEM cone filter config. The MAF/turbo intake snorkel fits perfectly into my shop vac opening... The car pulls WAY more air than the shop vac, so the pre turbo pressure drop difference escalates quite a bit at full tilt and high rpm's. Depending on how modified the engine is, one may or may not see a benefit in terms of quantifiable improvements in peak power. I can measure improvements on my system at peak power conditions.

![]() Average of six quarter mile runs (alternating direction on every run) with stock airbox versus six runs with alternate airbox configurations might be enough to show a difference. |

Actually, it's much simpler than that. After developing this method to measure airflow beyond what the MAF can read (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1210979), and using other sensor measurements (boost, emp, afr, maf, etc.) it's a quantifiable advantage. Also have a very large number of PerfExpert pulls with the logs across all kinds of environmental conditions and a few trips to the dragstrip with various configs.

I do remember that I had to do a lot of "trimming" on it to make it fit the way I wanted. And then I have a homemade heat shield thing in there as well... it's been a work in progress and evolving over the years.
