Cic upgrade
I’m looking to go from non I-Drive to cic and have had a good read over the procedure. What I can’t understand is which cic version/ build date I need. I’ve looked on eBay etc and the latest I can find is one made in 2011. I also want to fit a Combox.
I’ve currently got a; E92 uk 2010 320d msport BMW professional cd Headunit Basic sound system Once it’s installed I’ll be looking to upgrade the firmware and software, so I want to make sure I don’t run into any problems, I’ll be getting a bn2000 Combox. I’m wanting sat nav, Bluetooth streaming and the online services, might put a rear view camera in (has park distance control at the mo) and maybe a tv module. Dab enabled cic Headunit seem as rare as hens teeth and £200 dearer than non DAB Headunits Anyone able to keep me right on the hardware to look out for? Also anyone confirm if I have a mulf or tcu. I’ve got Bluetooth calling, no SOS and no usb socket anywhere. |

There really is not any way to know if you have the latest CIC software (C1A) until you read it with a coding rig. I have bought 3 used CIC from 2012s. 2 of the 3 were on the latest software. A safer bet may be to get one from a diesel. Those got flashed at the dealer more often.
As for the MULF/TCU post a pic of what is under the floor of your trunk. You may have a mulf with BT only and no USB wiring. Or BT may be built into your head unit. |

If the cic isn’t coded to the car I’m assuming it will still pull car data over and that only nav and audio doesn’t work. So I’ll need to code it to get the aux out on the cic working otherwise I won’t get audio on the droiduk screen. Cheers for your help |

Aux in is all that is needed for the aftermarket systems. Nav needs coding and or emulator/patch activation but you will be using the aftermarket system. CIC coding may be needed if your car does not match the donor with base audio vs logic 7. So you probably will need some form of coding.

HW 40 Build date 18/13 Ece region I’m hoping with it being a newer model, coding will be easier. I’ll be buying a bn2000 Combox soon as well and doing a pin swap. Have you any experience with that era cic? As the car doesn’t have gps, is it simply a case of buying a gps antenna with a fakra connector and plugging it into the Combox and maybe some coding? The CIC also happens to have DAB, so is it the same as above by connecting a dab antenna but directly to the cic? |

![]() ![]() ![]() I couldn’t see the any connections in the boot\ trunk. I’ve heard the shark fin may have the gps antenna already but I’m not sure how I’d access it, do you know if the roof lining comes down as a panel or is it like loose cloth?, I’ve bought a gps antenna which I was going to mount under the dash towards the window. |

Just waiting on various bits to come through including the dash.
I’ve fitted the diversity antenna and the combox and swapped the pins over. My Bluetooth phone prep no longer works which I expected as in my understanding the car doesn’t know there’s a combox. I’ve noticed on the pin swap diagram that it says pwr to pin 1 and 2 of the combox connector. I’ve put it in pin 1 as I only had 1 red/yellow wire. Once I’ve got the rest of the parts I’ll have a look and see what firmwares on the devices before I tackle coding. The worst job I’m looking at it getting the fakra cable for the dab radio signal from the cic through to the diversity antenna. |

Cheers. Just swapped the dash today, bit of a pain but it’s in. Need to route the dab cable to the diversity unit from the cic and wire a few bits in. Noticed something that looks aftermarket plugged in under / behind the glove box. Think it might have been an aftermarket phone prep thing not entirely sure considering it already had Bluetooth phone prep. Still waiting on the fakra cables coming from Lithuania for the cic to cid and the idrive and cid power connectors before I can test it.

Wired the screen and connector to the quadlock and have managed to blow fuse 14. May have blown others but it was the first one I checked and is indeed blown. No power at all to the cic / screen / controller. Not going at all well this retrofit 😂 I’m fully expecting it to blow again when I stick a replacement fuse in.
Anyone know if it’s common to blow fuses by connection the screen and controller to the quadlock? |
