Found a thing in my engine!! Help!

So I have been doing some work on my 08 335i and will post some about that when I'm done. Specifically an alternative for cam ledge seals.

While doing so I found this little hard plastic cap plug thing sitting in the head. I think its been there a while and the only one whose had the cover off is bmw prior to me. I need to know what this is and where it cam from.

Anybody know?

Also the exhaust cam has a plug in the end. Looks like some kind of silicone or similar. The intake does not. Does it need to be plugged and was this cap that?

Any help is appreciated.

Injector boot? Also kind of looks like the caps used on OE DV when they are blocked off.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I can't figure it out but I think bmw may have dropped it in when they replaced the valve cover gasket before I got the car. Looks like it may have been there for a while.

I'm putting the cams back in and am just gonna try it. Obviously not leaving that in there.

Be grateful that's all they left in there. Lol, the stories I have...
