Brakes on M240i X drive…..not impressed
Just got the car. So far 500 miles. Is it just me or what. Feel the brakes are not up to BMW standard. I don’t have the extra cooling wheel package but not sure if the brakes are any different. Interested to hear from members what their take on the brakes and if it is worth upgrading. I also can not find the specs of the brakes so I would appreciate sharing info if known.

Yea, I've been very underwhelmed with the breaks. I'm past break in at 1200 miles and my mom's 2015 x1 msport with baby breaks has more bite and response to breaking. (I did change the breaks myself a few months ago, so they are new too). The m240i breaks feel super soft and have a lot more travel to engage compared to previous bmws where you barely tap them and you stop. I expected more from M sport breaks.

I agree the brakes are a let down, soft long travel pedal before they bite. My wife’s RDX has a more linear feel I thought it was because it was new and needed bedding in but 1500 miles later they are just the same. They definitely don’t inspire confidence compared to the performance of the car.

Car and driver tested the 70-0 braking on both the 2022 m240i and the M2. The M2 did it in 151 feet and the m240i did it in 153. Some better tires and some track compound brake pads could easily get the m240i into the high 140 feet stopping range. Not a bad result for a car targeted for daily driver enthusiasts IMO.

thanks for this info. I am getting suspicious that there "may" be an issue with the pads in "some production" cars. It seems that the feedback from various drivers on the brakes is either good, excellent or not so good.

I am sure the value is very high. Any OEM M part is. Just a thought. https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/maga...ive-coupe.html |

I continue to feel like the brakes are incredibly strong. Maybe too aggressive on initial bite even.
It would be valuable to compare one of the cars people think have weak brakes with another car. Maybe go for a test drive with a dealer car and see if you notice a difference. |

Mine feel soft but it is in comparison to a much lighter previous vehicle that had the factory brake upgrade option (GTI). And that all may be perceptual as I have no idea of the actual breaking distance discrepancy between the two, but the feel is definitely different, a lot of it likely due to a much heavier car. |

Yup, we need some specifics here, what size are your rotors, front and rear, what about calipers, have you verified they are "bigger" than stock. (note: i would like to have it verified the size of the rotors and calipers of the ZTK package since there is no mention of brakes in the description, yet i have come to believe the front rotors are larger (374MM?) yet calipers are the same. So can folks with that option verify?
