How can you post this with no link. Just switch out reservation to allocation/order and pickup/delivery - Classic

Ah -- here in CT, I had the option of buying one at two different dealers. One had multiple allocations.

I need an allocation asap. Long story, but my new M4 met its demise on the guardrail at the exit of Turn 9 at Watkins Glen a couple of weeks ago.

Please LMK if you know of one anywhere. I will do PCD delivery so it doesn’t matter where the dealer is.

Long story short I was on two waiting lists with my local BMW dealers here in Minneapolis. I decided last month to stick with my car and consider the G87 in the next couple years. 1 week after that decision the 1st dealer called me saying they had an allocation. Now today the 2nd dealer called and said they received 3 allocations and I was #3 on their list so I could put in an order-- pretty nice of them considering I had already requested my deposit back. If you're on the Minneapolis area dealer lists they are getting through their waiting lists at a decent clip.

I'm curious to know at what point does the dealership keep the deposit and not refund it? Is it when you get a production number? Or is the deposit always refundable?

With my dealer it was refundable up until the point of getting an allocation and formally ordering a car. It will depend on the dealer though. I asked all those questions prior to swiping my card to understand the process. Weirdly though my other local dealer did not require a deposit to be on the waiting list. Their thought was that since they had such a long list they would have no issue selling the car to the next people up in line in case someone backed out.

My dealer even said that as long as you don't make some ridiculous order (like carbon package with center exhaust and a whole bunch of performance parts), they aren't going to keep your deposit because it will be easy to sell.

Definitely talk to your individual dealer though. They all make their own rules I think.

That’s probably a question to ask your dealership and have in writing prior to a deposit. IMO

Cannot be repeated enough times. Refundable, in writing, accept nothing less.

I just got on the waitlist last week (Northern CA) and was told it could be up to a year. Dealer called me today and said they had an allocation in 112 status. Took it. Car should be here by end of October.

With the way things are going now, be happy if its sooner but probably looking closer to end of November or into December.

I don’t know what you’re on about, if you look at GregW’s tracker, things are picking up. Quit with the doom and gloom.

No, honesty and being realistic. You are obviously 100% clueless...but thats ok, keep hoping. Maybe you will even get your car in September.

Look at the spreadsheet and tell me he’s getting his car in December. Quit being a diva 🙄

There are the exceptions but 3+ months is about average. Being there are many cars at 2+ months that have not even nade it to the port at Vera Cruz (and will miss the upcoming ship), after the wait for the next one, make the voyage to destination port, wait for a truck to get to the dealerships...yup, that is more than 3 months. They have to somehow move a lot of the backlogged stock (its not just the M2s but all 2 and 3 series) to be able to get cars swiftly delivered in two months (and that is assuming a perfect world with no campain issues or parts shortage issues).

I would love to get my car in the next two weeks (to be at 2.5 months) but it is just physically impossible

Many more allocations were announced in July compared to April-June including mine on 7/28. I have a build date of week 40 with some port installed options. Realistically, I don’t expect delivery until late December/early January. YMMV
