E92 335xi - n55: Exhaust recommendations
I recently purchased a 2013 335xi and I’m in love. Everything about it is great but I want a little more sound. Car is basically stock with just a vrsf charge pipe. My car does not have the m PE and I can’t seem to find one anywhere. I’ve been reading old threads regarding exhausts, but all of the links have now expired or the product has been discontinued. Having xdrive really limits me from what I’ve been seeing, does anyone on here have any suggestions?

I have the Eisenmann on my z3 m roadster. S54 instead of your N55, but I love it. And my wife doesn't give me grief about it either.
There is an M PE on my daughter's '11 N55 and it also sounds fantastic (car used to be mine). But like you said they are nearly impossible to find. Even used examples are expensive. |

I loved the sound of the PE but couldn't find it back then as well, thus a popular practice by many was to do the PE mod, which was basically making a homemade version of the PE. Back then a forum member was nice enough to donate his PE for the community and opened it up to see how it was constructed. Essentially, to achieve the PE mod, you would have to cut qnd drop the catback portion of the stock exhausts. You would then cut and open the faces of the two chambers and you would find a perforated pipe in one and a mini-resonatoe in the other. You would cut these off and replace them by straight pipe that you would weld. You would put back the fiberglass insulation that came with the exhaust inside the chambers to prevent unwanted reverberations. You would then buy muffler clamps and put bwck the catback on the car. Mod Bargains has a video outlining these steps: Here is an example of how it sounded on my car:

Thank you so much, this is exactly what I have been looking for. Your car sounds amazing btw, especially with the addition of the down pipe. Did you go to a tuner after installation of the DP or did you use a mhd/jb4 type of thing?

Unfortunately car got totaled on the highway in a multi-car incident. To code out the O2 sensors CEL, I just used my MHD tune and would enable the checkbox for aftermarket catless downpipe in the settings.

I've got a 2012 manual 335i with an M performance exhaust date stamped from 2013 and the sound is great.
Nice and meaty on cold starts and the engine sings nicely at high RPM so doing the modification to make a standard exhaust similar would be my recommendation. Cold start this morning https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yl7...ew?usp=sharing Light revving https://drive.google.com/file/d/10H5...ew?usp=sharing Driving light acceleration https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EAO...ew?usp=sharing These are all with the electric connector to the exhaust flap pulled so the flap is open 24/7 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dV2...ew?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yo2...ew?usp=sharing |

Malteser_wfj , I did the PE mod on mine and always wondered how it is compared to the actual MPE exhaust. It's crazy how similar they are

On the xDrive it's pretty much only the muffler section that can be done. Muffler delete + catless DP is decently loud. It's a bit too much for me, cold starts must be deleted with a tune otherwise it'll wake the dead. I still have my stock muffler sitting in the garage and have been thinking about cutting it open for the PE mod.
