Creaking Dashboard

Hello, recently dashboard on my E92 started to creak. The noise seems to come from the vent thingy on top of the dashboard near the windshield. It started when the weather got colder and gets worse when driving on uneven or rutted roads, likely as the chassis flexes. It sounds like plastic squeaking or grinding against something.

I've attached a Dropbox link to a video (note: the video isn’t mine, but the sound is exactly the same): https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/nfa0y...=58y599uo&dl=0

Candle wax can solve a ton of squeaking issues, simple but effective!

Your mileage may vary!

I have the same determination as you if I need I will disassemble everything. I have a few suspicions as to who can make that creaking noise since it comes from really close to the windshield it can maybe be windshield rubbers or windshield adhesive itself. I will be changing those things at my mechanics on Monday. Tbh I strongly believe that the windshield has to do something with that creaking because when I drive on uneven surfaces or through potholes it makes a strange popping sound like a rock was hitting the windshield so I hope by changing the windshield adhesive and those few rubber parts to fix the problem. Wish me luck

Tighten up the center bolt on your strut tower bars. It’s a very common issue that causes a creaking noise coming from the center of the dash/windshield area.

Try removing the bolt entirely. No matter how tight i make mine (I torqued it to yield) the noise was there. When I totally removed the bolt the noise went away.

I ended up adding a strut brace and leaving the strut bar bolt removed to solve my issue.

I am not saying that it will solve your problem because there may be many different reasons for the squeak but, there is something you can try if the noise is really coming from the top of the dashboard near the vent. The vent comes out. If I remember well, you need to pry it up. It is on some snaps. Underneath there are some screws. You can try tightening those. But careful, they might be going into plastic, you must exercise judgement. Also, be careful trying to pry the vent up. The windshield is very close and if you hit it with something hard like a screwdriver, it will likely crack.

This may help.
