Thankfully DEF is easy to find in my area so I can just buy it and top up when the car tells me to.
I would keep a jug in my garage but I have heard you want to use fresh DEF because it can crystalize with age.

if you keep it in garage, away from sunlight - it will take very long time before it will go bad.
however, just like you said - DEF is readily available - there is no need to fill your garage with extra

My OCD style logistics:
- get a 2.5gal DEF container just before oil change
- refill DEF first (passive tank)
- change engine oil and use empty DEF jug for used motor oil
- take oil for recycling in the DEF container
- forget about DEF until next oil change
