Absolutely no need to test, the shift maps are the primary control. Been there, done that.

Safety limits, both of them are used in other calculations.

Thinking about your situation further, I would use the original shift points and just modify the throttle position axis. You could simply increase those values by 10-20% to compensate for the higher engine load and things would probably work out.

Another crazy idea would be to modify the Drivers wish maps in the DME. simply increase the target load value for a given throttle (foot pedal) position. That's one map.

Would you be able to produce some maps for me to try or is it a lot of work? i.e. more than a 5 minute job?

In one of the zf documents, ( perhaps a PowerPoint), they mentioned that when stopped in D, the transmission can disengage a clutch for gear 1, reducing fuel usage when stopped.

I thought that this wasn't implemented in the e70 or e90 until last week.
When stopped, after a few seconds I heard the engine tone change and bimmer tool showed 7mg/s instead of 8.5. (N would use 5.6mg/s at the time, so it's not a full disengagement as the tc and trans oil pump are still in use)
Letting go of the brake, it felt like a quick shift to get moving, much faster than when going from N to D since it's in an in between state of N and D.

This behavior doesn't happen if I stop and keep the trans in 2nd, only first.
Sadly it stops happening after a while, when engine is warmed up.

So I tried to change the warmup cutoff to 100C , speed 300 km/h, and timeout of 3600s which is 60 minutes. Sadly this didn't extend the time of the behavior.

I'm looking through this document to see if there's anything about this, but so far no luck.

Interesting, Can the Bimmer tool log the GKE211? There's ton's of parameters you can directly log, one or more of them might show what's really happening. It will probably be one of the Stat parameters that show status. unfortunately, there are no pressure sensors on the ZF6HP.

Not sure what logging it can do with the transmission and I think it's gke195 but it's been years since I dug into the damos.
What software do you recommend for logging? I can get the laptop to capture it. I have ista and testo working.

I’v always used TestO and it will log the transmission. Can’t log as many parameters at one time but it should work fine

I'm still driving around with a 4200rpm rev limit. No idea how to solve that problem. It's not the worst thing in the world. I think it potentially dampens overtaking performance.

I couldn't really work out how to use the bimmerlabs page. It's got a standard engine tune but I'm open to ideas.

Ya, Bimmerlabs is down right not and I'm not sure if it's coming back. Probably easier if I just build a custom TCU file. Without Bimmer labs it will be a little bit of a pain but I still have my old tools. I'm traveling this week and should have an hour or two in a hotel

Just a reminder, Bimmerlabs has the ability to process a custom GKE 211 tunes into a fully signed and check sum corrected 0Da file. I've done about 50 different tunes so I'm pretty sure it's safe.

My only request is you keep your work public so others can benefit.

It's been a lifetime since I have looked at this stuff, I think this is the latest file I created for the GKE 211 for the E90
