With the 2009 idrive/nav system I frequenty find myself thinking "what a dumb way to do things - why does it take so many stupid clicks and swipes of the idrive mouse?" But, it works well, entry of addresses and searches are simple, and the live traffic feature is superb.

the older nav system on the 08s and older cars is good but not the best in its class... there are cars around the same price range with nav systems that i feel are more intuitive and have better interfaces .... however one thing i really like bout the oem nav system is that the reception is quite good. i've driven in new york city where my windshield mounted garmin would go crazy and not be able to find anything, yet the oem nav keeps tracking the car with very little loss of signal. i feel its worth it. on long trips, i still use my windshield mounted garmin just cos it has more POIs and the maps are more up to date on my garmin.

The idrive option is just not navi you get alot more than that.
I like the audio control, the car computer per say, phone features etc... all of which are much better on a larger screen than on the tiny radio display. |

Knowing from experience I have the nav on my 335i, and no nav on our 328xi. Everything is easier with the music, car options, climate control, and especially the bluetooth. It may not be the best navigation system, but it is much more than that.

I really think it's a personal choice where it really depends on what you need. I opted not to have the nav, but rather get a portable system that can be used in both mine and my wife's car. The other features are nice, but I don't regret not getting it.

and I think every car should have a GPS. I mean what if you get lost in the middle of nowhere at night? I don't think I could live without it lol

i have an 08 idrive system, yeah i wish it was HD instead of DVD i would also like to change the color of the maps/display. i think that brown menu color is horrible besides that its fine, no lag at all. my dads 09 tl has a decent system allows you to personalize more, im sure the 09 works more that way.
