Question Underhood temperatures

Has anyone ever measured underhood temperatures with and without the hood insulation? I wonder if it will make any difference...

*BUMP* for an educated answer ........

I would suspect well over the 300 mark considering all of the heatsoak issues the DCI intakes have.

I remember Former_Boosted_IS measured air temperatures in his intercooler reviews. Maybe somebody with a sensor at hand could do this test.

On another note, would a vented hood help with dissipating heat?

I have been considering a vented hood for this reason. Not a big fan of the vented hood look but if it helps lower the temps I would be all over it.

I heard that 2009 LCI E90 don't have the hood insulation. Is that true?

my 09' 135 doesnt have any hood insulation as well... I think it's more of a cost cutting thing from BMW, as i'm sure the high engine temps can't be good for the paint of the hood.... oh well

Isn't paint baked when cured anyway? Besides, under direct sunlight it will heat up to a high temperature anyway (especially dark colors).

It can get up to 160 - 180 as measured in a previous test.
