Hey ‘lightweight’
Man, that looks awful… Post a question over on the always excellent ‘Detailing World’ forum. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/index.php Be careful before applying any aggressive chemicals or abrasives. They should be able to help advise.

If it's any consolation my bumper and bonnet are no better, grills look good though (always finish on a positive)

Finish it off with something like Blackfire or Duragloss.

Whatever you do I suggest you don't lower the value of your car with that cheap fiberglass kit.
Spend the extra and get the OEM M-Sport plastic parts or try to find a way to improve the look of your existing bumper. |

You could give your bumper a try with clay first. Megs clay kit can now be bought in Halfords. Lubricate the bumper well with the lubricant and gently rub the clay bar over the bumper. If the roughness you feel is surface contaminants, claying will get rid of it and leave the paint feeling smooth.
Have a look at the claying guide on DetailingWorld for more complete info. Even if it doesn't work, no further damage will have been done by using the clay. |

Thanks guys for all your help. I will be trying to sort this out next weekend since I'm busy all this week. I'm gonna look around some bodyshops and try and get a quote on the work to be done...anything I should be aware of? How do I know they are of a decent standard? Any questions I should be asking?

The ultimate problem is water based paint. Bring back cellulose two pack and f**k the planet if is saves the shiny paint finish from stone chips on my car
My bumper looks exactly the same. After polishing it looks passable but after two or three washes it looks exactly the same as yours with the white primer showing through. |
