There would be some considerable motorway miles being but on the car.

Birmingham - portsmouth and back most if not all weekends.

I do prefere the e92 certainly BUT i dont think I can igonore the fact i can get a younger nicely specced 1er for potentially alot less...

Are electronic problems common on older cars then?

Argh decisions decisions...

Mate, seriously don't think you can compare an almost new 1 Series and 3 year old 3 Series simply from a retail price pov.

The reality is, a 3 year old 3 Series will have taken a big depreciation hit and someone else has taken the burden. However, with an almost new 1 Series, you'll take the depreciation hit.

If you prefer the E92, shop around and you'll find a 6 pot E92 for less than £20k. Buy yourself a warranty and job done.

Obviously, if you prefer the 1 Series, what are you waiting for??!!

Good luck!

I owned a 335d and upgraded to the 123d last year. If you can live without the space of the 3 series the 1er is far more fun to drive on a day to day basis.

I think the 1 Series coupe is a lovely looking motor and assume it's a great car to drive. But in my opinion, there's just something more blokey about the 3 Series!

As to my post it really is as simple as for me the 1er is more fun to drive on a daily basis. The 335d is a fantastic car loads of ability and suits the auto box perfectly.

The 1er is smaller, manual gearbox and more nible the best definition I can give is a rear wheel drive hot hatch. For me it was an upgrade and for others who have made the same choice as I personally prefer driving this car on a daily basis. Totally respect and understand why most people would think the other way. I am only giving the OP my opinion and reason why I would choose the 1 coupe in my original post.

Another example I can give is when I brought my Boxster the dealer said lots of 997 owners have traded them for Caymans. Customers who had grown up with 911s said the cayman is in the spirit of what the 911 used to be. The 1er is more like the E36 generation BMW and sometimes less can be more.

THe 1er may or may not be more fun, but the E92 definitely looks better, although I appreciate that perception of beauty is highly subjective. As long as you're happy with what you have, thats all that matters

If the 123d has Xenons I'd go for it, not just for the lights, but you have the latest nav and idrive, the best colour interior combo and a longer warranty and there's less of them about. I know the engine isn't a six pot, but it is the best four pot derv burner made.

- Very good point.

And every day of the week I'd go for the E92 - even though the 123d is an incredible engine!

Id sort of understand some of the responses in here if he was considering 320d vs 123d but 330d vs 123d.

This question does not need answering.
