I think the fuel pump failures seem limited to the 335s. I don't think it applies to other models of BMW. I started with Petro Can 94, then switch to shell for a while now back to PetroCan94. I was also told higher octane equals better mileage. I really don't see the difference.

Higher octane fuel burns more efficiently and precisely. You wont get better mileage and it certainly will not make an engine sound different.
