What? the filters do not make a difference? Check other turbo cars, maybe the 335i doesn't get any addition, I have never bought a filter (beucause they dont have it) for the 335i, but I had less restrictive air filter in 2 turbo cars, and it did make good difference. Check the SRT-4 and the WRX STi. Excellent gains.

I would do buy the drop in filter for the 335i when it comes out. The drop in filters may give you a sad 9hp (DROP IN) in a EVO. However, the 335i is a little differente, I don't know how different. But, it gives like .5Hp (or less) to many cars lol. I feel also better having one.

And it Turbo cars it is not about the "COLD air" intake, but about the restrictions. A turbo car gets a better straw to suck air from.

this might sound like a dumb question, but would an e90 330 am intake work on a 335?> do they use the same stock intakes etc....cause i havent seen any 335 specific intakes out there....

its true to a certain extent. all cars benefit from having colder, denser air.

BUT the gains on a turbo car are less significant as compared to an natural aspirated cars when you change the filter media. i dont know about the set4 but changing the filter or having a cold air intake did nothing for my STi.

what Inkidoo said about restrictions are on point though. especially in terms of a wider diameter. but that comes in later when you need it for bigger turbos.

as for K & N . never used it. dont think i would either. nothing against them. but why change something that does nothing to the car. not even visually unless you remove the airbox cover.

i rather stock up on new BMW OEM filters then cleaning a " high performance" filter every 20k mile.

open up your hood and follow the path of the air flow. It is already designed as a cold-ram-intake.

Unless you have lived in AZ for any length of time, you have no idea what you are talking about. It shouldn't be too difficult to figure out that people who actually LIVE in an area have the best information about the climate and air quality.

Those of us who LIVE in AZ know that a K&N installed in a daily driver has to be cleaned at least once a year in AZ due to dust storms, or it becomes absolutely caked in dust, sand, and dirt.

You're welcome.

Fair enough, I take it back.

In turbo cars usually its the Air-box that is restrictive and might not allow proper air volumes. Cold air is better than hot, but usually the air temp does not make much difference.

Well, one solution could be to come up with a water spray system like on the WRX IMprezas. You could theoretically have two nozzles in place, on either side of the intercooler, and press a button to activate the spray.

I'm not a master mechanic here but this could be one better way to "cool" the intake air while its in the intercooler.

Someone told me that with a k&n filter, i can get between 30-40% more airflow, do you guys think this is true, and if so, will the computer adjust for the increase in air, or will the car run too lean? I'm pretty sure that if the computer doesn't compensate, increasing airflow without increasing fuel can not make the car faster and actually worsen it because it runs too lean.

The 335i runs in a closed loop fuel system, meaning that the wideband o2 sensors sniff out your actual AFR after each cycle, and adjust accordingly, so AFR targets are accuratly reached, and verified.

Although K&N doesn't have an application for the 335, If I had the BMW air filter part number, I might could cross reference the number to an existing K&N filter. Does anyone know the part number for the OEM air filter?
