35% all around...
just buy a $20 steamer from Target and steam your tints and remove them..it's pretty easy... then go pay to add new tints! |

both, but whenever i sit in an untinted car i can instantly feel the difference on a sunny day. i have 30% all around, and its not the darkest but it looks fine.
as for the OP, if you want to retint, get it done... as for the rear windshield, i think they normally steam it off to avoid ruining the dot matrix...but that depends on the shop.

big factor is the color of your interior. I got 20% all around with a light interior, and it looks solid. At the same time, a friend got the same 20 all around w/ black interior and it looks like a limo.
+100 on same tint all around. If you're that worried about cops, roll them down when you go by them. Looks way better than some two-tint looking hack job... just IMHO naturally.

It matters what color your interior is and the exterior. If your car is black on the outside its gonna look a little darker then a white car. Same with interior, darker the leather, darker its gonna look.
My e92 is black with light grey interior. It came with "factory" tints in the back. I got 15% in the front and 15% over the factory tint. My friend as a white e92 with black interior and it looks just as dark. Looks clean as well. Not too dark and too light. |

I JUST got pulled over for my tint a couple hours ago in Pittsburgh (was still daylight), but I was told the tint was too dark. I have 15% all around, and I guess it is pretty dark. I think the PA law is similar to CA...no tint on front windows. I did get let off with a warning tho after I said "I could have it taken off" (notice I didn't say I WOULD)
If I get pulled again (first time with this car), and get ticketed, I'll probably switch to something lighter...30 or 35%. So, in reply to the original post...if you go darker, you increase your chances of being pulled over. If a cop can't see you in your car and he's bored, he's gonna pull you over....usually in hopes of you having bad paperwork, a warrant, or a nice big brick of H on your backseat! Depends on your luck too...I kinda ran a red light a couple miles before I crossed paths with Mr. Officer (who pulled a U-turn in the middle of an intersection to pull me over!). He would have been long gone if I would have stopped at that light! Damn you, Karma. |

I was driving through Brookline at the time. Some dbag was taking his sweet time making a turn and I was kinda hung out in the intersection right in front of the cop. Probably wouldn't have noticed me otherwise. Funny thing is, I've never been bothered by city cops...my old roommate is a cop, and he (among many) tints his vehicles. Some of those guys are hypocrites tho. Regardless, I'm sure he was disappointed when a white boy rolled the window down and all my paperwork was legit. |

I have 20% on my side windows and 5% on my rear got one ticket and paid it. If you have a hard time seeing at night activate your rear fog lights and that'll help a lot

Dark tint is for looks only - and the looks are questionable.
If you are going for UV protection/heat rejection, then a nice 50 or 60% ceramic tint will do a better job than the 5% limo tint. Ceramic tint will also not cause radio issues and will actually allow you to see. |

As the guy mentioned above, use a steamer/razor blade and rip it off and re-tint.
Done this a few times, really easy. By the way, I think 20-35% all around looks the best. |

Removing a fresh tint is very easy. You dont need to do anything but wait for a warm day and let it sit in the sun for a little bit. Then pick a corner and peel it off. Now if your tint is really old and bubbling, thats when it becomes a major pain in the ass to remove because of all the adhesive left on the window. If you have any adhesive on the window, just hit it with some simple green and it'll melt right off.

so. cal cops can pull you over randomly for just tint. I have 15% tint all around and never ran into a problem. Just keep your windows down most of the time or when you see a cop. The dark tint on dark cars look much better. IMO. The best option is to take off the tint and retint would be the best route for you.
