Well my car is in the shop.
My SA was actually very helpful. He's also a enthusiast so it helps.
I just told him that I think it's the fuel pump and he agreed and gave me a description of the ignition not kicking in

So I reluctantly handed my keys over and said bye to my 2nd born bimmer... see you in a month or so

Well I have a 328i sedan to drive in the meanwhile.

BzsBimmer can you please check with your SA to see if your failed pump has the serial number below? That is supposed to be the new or replacement pump, and should have been incorporated in a Jan production.

If it's not the same, at least we'll know that the new HPP's might still be good.

I was able to do that at first, but only a few times before my car completely died out and wouldn't start at all! When you swtich off your car, it does a "soft" reset of your computer and thus clears the problem only temporarily. Hopefully that should be enough to get you home or to the nearest dealer without having to get towed!

I've already taken it in 2 weeks ago and they booked my car in for may 2nd! They told me it would be alright to drive until then. So it seems that I'm driving a time bomb and I was given no warning not to take any long trips (I would hate to get stranded in the middle of nowhere) just in case. I am going to bitterly complain to my dealer about this.

My car has been having these problems for almost a month now- but it is getting worse

Good to hear your SA was very helpful. I'm sure he's heard or may even had dealt with customers with bad fuel pumps already so I'm sure he's well experienced already. Good luck though, we're all on the same boat with waiting for fuel pumps!

Hmmmm... I'll ask
Thealbert... he actually said that I'm the first... he's just heard through the grapevine that this seems to be a problem for 335's
In any case, day 2 update - no word yet
I have to call him tomorrow anyways about the part number thing.

I checked with my SA today. Apparently the part they ordered for me was HPP part # 13537537320. umm... I asked him if it was the new/better pump and he said it should be. umm.. again.. Oh well, they said it should be here by next week so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this new pump won't die out on me.

I was actually the first at my dealer too. But then again, there are tons of BMW dealers nationwide. The dealer in the next town apparently has two cars in its garage with bad pumps.

Keep us updated buddy.. I'm entering week two of my wait for the fuel pump. Dealer said I should get the new pump in two weeks. I hope they're right and that I it get it soon!

theslbert: That is the correct/new pump...your SA did order the right one.

The reason why I asked BzsBimmer for his pump's part # was because his 335, having been built in Jan 2007, should have incorporated the new pump already. As such, if the pump that failed was indeed the new one...then we have problems.

Well I just spoke with my SA and it's appears that it is the fuel pump.
He doesn't know yet what the timeline is for getting a new one but it looks like I'm on the list like all the other people.
I told him about the PN and he will let me know when they pull it. It seems that they haven't pulled it yet and won't do it until the new one arrives or the area BMW pro comes by to take a look.
Either way.... no 335 for me right now

So I just spoke to the service manager and he said that he has NO idea when new fuel pump will be enroute.
BMW factory is not stating when they will have it shipped but he's trying to have it directly shipped from factory.
In any case, he offered to have BMW to make a payment without me even asking!!! That's service!
I feel bad for other clients out there who have to beg and plead to have this done.
Well it hasn't actually happened yet so I'll step off of my perch

And FYI - it apparently is the older fuel pump that just made it in that month.
Probably a week one build and they changed the fuel pump in week 3 or 4

Update

So I just got a call from my service manager.
It looks like BMW still has no word on the lead time for fuel pumps

He asked me if it was okay to take one off from a new vehicle that just came off the flat bed with a March production date... I was like SURE!

So hopefully by this weekend, I'll have her back with new floormats and a months payment to boot!
