apparently he was very smart enough and he handles all the ///M cars that comes in and had work for BMW for almost 10 years... although your comments sounds like it.

BMW Germany sent over a crate engine to New Zealand within a week. Very happy. I guess they wanted my noisy engine back in Germany for research!

So we bought //M cars for routine daily driving? I could do that with a natural gas Civic and pay $2/gal and drive in the carpool lane. That's just an idiot response. See below.

This is becoming a bit distressing.
Someone should start up a registry. I'd feel a lot better with at least a 100,000 mile warranty on the engine.

Generally true, but not always that simple. Example: take an engine that can handle 9000rpm and stroke it. The top end can still handle 9000rpm, but the bottom end probably won't last, all else being equal.


~10 years ago, over-rev'd stock 993 TT's were as likely to stretch rod bolts (killing bearings) as they were to bend a valve. Today bent valves are more likely, thanks largely to 10 years worth of valve spring fatigue... (NA 993s have higher compression/less valve clearance and almost always kill valves)

You misread MY POST. I was talking about the guy at the dealer who was trying to blow smoke up your ass and said the bearing's failing was because of drivng the car too hard or over reving.

At least that's what I got from your post... it's kind of written for shit. My 8 year old would be more grammatically correct.

Good question! I assumed my warranty is still good through Sept 2012, but I guess I'll ask.

As far as the service, again, I assumed that nothing has changed, but I guess it's not such a good idea to assume, all things considered.

I'll ask when I pick her up in a few more days.

Seems to me they should restart the powertrain servicing and warranty date again. You need to do the 1200 mile service again, etc etc.

Got the call today - engine is in, all is well, and she comes home tomorrow!

I will double check on the servicing & warranty, as I really have no idea how that will work from this point...

Sound like shit with a valve spring down right? Had that on my S85, though it was BMW of Monrovia that messed it up while trying to fit a new horn (they denied it, and said the whining sound from the engine was "normal") . Got to love incompetent stealers....

I'm interested in the answer to this too. I'm guessing there's lots of negotiation room/profit margin. BMW BevHills quoted me like 5or 6k iirc when I bought the 5er, which I passed on. Is it full BMW coverage for an additional 2 years and 50k from the standard for first owner? Also, are there any options to get more than two years but less than 100k miles?

I brought my 08 into the dealer today likely for its last standard free maintenance and talking to the finance guy he laid out about 10 different options for me and of course the most expensive seemed like the best in terms of covering anything and everything and after reading posts about the 08 engine failures I'm
Really leaning towards doing that. I think the peace of mind knowing that if anything small or major happens I can take it back to the dealer with no questions asked
